Getting my Mojo back

Cards, Spectrum noir, The Ton stamps, Zig clean color real brush

After 2 months of just dealing with only our house move, you would think that I couldn’t wait to get back to crafting. And although I missed it terribly, I just couldn’t seem to get down and start creating again. All the cards posted during the month of January were done before Christmas, so in reality I had only made 1 card in January!! What happened to my creative mojo? Well, for one, as my craft room was the last to be unpacked, I still had 10 boxes piled up in it, so getting to my craft table alone was like gong through an obstacle course, and I cannot craft in a mess!

And appetite comes with eating, as we/they say in French and the opposite applies too. The less I did, the less I felt like doing. Luckily or unluckily, you decide later, we might take on a student boarder and if she stays, she will have my craft room and I will haul all my stuff up to our spare bedroom. Why would I do such a crazy thing, to give up my large bright craft room and move all my stuff again??? Well I want a cleaning lady and with what the boarder will be paying, I can get one guilt free! ;))) So I had to clean up all the boxes in my craft room, as she was coming to stay for afew days to try out the school…and I wasn’t about to put a beautiful Italian 16 yr old in our spare room beside our bedroom, even if I trust my hubby 100% I’m not stupid!

So once the craft room was clean, I felt like crafting again and decided just to sit down one day and start making a  card and this popped out! I was heavily influenced and inspired by TaeEun’s DT card for the February challenge and Effie’s use of feathers on her gorgeous cards!

To make the card, I first diecut a heart mask using Xcut’s layered hearts and then laid this mask over my card, taping it down with washi tapes. I used afew flowers & leaves from The Ton’s Fresh Cut Anemones set and stamped in the outline with Distress inks. I took my Spectrum Noir sparkly markers and coloured in the flowers, and used my Zig clean color real brush to colour in the rest.

I stamped in the German sentiment, which means “Thanks Alot, as this card is for a new neighbour who gave us a pot of flowers to welcome us to the neighbourhood, with Versafine black ink, but I should have cleaned the stamp first as its full of fibers from the wet wipes I used to wipe it and it transferred to my card… Once it was dry I stamped in the hummingbird from Stamplorations and covered it with feathers. To finish I added Nuvo drops, but as I’m new to them I still  haven’t really gotten the hang of how to make nice round flat dots!

Well I hope you liked my card, I’m going to start making a series of Happy New Year cards now although I’m very very late but better late than never right? And the people receiving it will now have more time to read it too!

Thanks for dropping by and I always enjoy your comments!

With this ring I thee wed…

Altenew, Brushos paint powder, Cards, Die cuts, Heat embossing, stamping, Stencil, The Ton stamps, Watercolor, WoW embossing powder

I attended a friend’s wedding this weekend and it is so nice to have 1.Young enough friends & 2. Friends who still believe in marriage! ( I guess those 2 go together…). During the marriage we were asked to write notes they would read 1 year later and I was struggling to try and write some words of wisdom that would help them have a better marriage. Most of what I could think of would have been advice too late; like “if you love his faults too then he’s the one for you…” or “marry your best friend…”. General advice like “Don’t go to bed angry” didn’t seem genuine as I’ve gone to bed angry a hundred times and got up feeling none the worse. 😉 Or, “If he loves you, everything else can be forgiven… like, are you kidding! So in the end I just wished them a marriage full of love, laughter… and lots of patience!! 🙂

the ton blue & lavendar

I made 2 cards for them, one from me and one for a friend who was invited to the same wedding. The one above was done in colours she loves and I had a lot of pleasure colouring those beautiful The Ton stamps again with my Zigs. I first stamped them in Versamark and heat embossed the Wow embossing powders I sprinkled on top. The sentiment comes from Justrite “Wedding wishes vintage” collection.

I die cut the centre with a Spellbinders die and layered it so it stood out.

The next card was made by first adding a pearl embossing paste through the Altenew “Halftone stencil” and letting it dry. I then created the coloured background by sprinkling my Brusho paint powders on the card and spritzing it with water

I then used a heart die from XCut to cut out the beautiful heart, adhered it on the card and then added the die cut poenies from Altenew, which I had first stamped with Versamark and heat embossed with Wow embossing powder.

I didn’t really have a suitable wedding sentiment to add on the top so I hand write “Together forever” with a gold pen.

Its summer in Ulm!

Cards, Die cuts, Heat embossing, mixed media, stamping, Stencil, Watercolor

Yes! After the long cold winter, summer has come early to Ulm! Since the beginning of June, we have been having sun and temperatures up to 30deg C! I’m already so tanned just spending late afternoons swimming in our neighbourhood lake, after the kids come out of school. Heres a pic of me and the kids… lol!

Yes we share the lake with a family of swans and they can get quite aggressive! Have a look at a funny video I took of them here.

So warm temperatures and blooming flowers inspired me to make this “mixed mediums” card, along with the gorgeous inspiration picture from the challenge at Time Out. I call it mixed mediums cause it has stamping, stencilling, heat embossing, embossing paste, die cuts, water colouring…!

If you follow my blog, you know I’m not really a mixed media person, but I have been looking at my own bookmark creations above, which have been sitting on my crafting table ever since I made them for my book club 2 months ago, and they are a constant reminder that my few attempts at it didn’t turn out too badly 😉  So I decided to try a mixed media card with as many mediums as I could fit in without it being too “heavy”!

I used the Stamplorations “Bloom Boldly” stencil. To colour in the leaves I used a sponge dauber and Stampin’ Up inks, and gold embossing paste for the flower. As I didn’t mask the leaves when adding the paste, I wasn’t able to get a smooth finish on the flower, but now it just looks like light reflecting off the petals… 😉 The dabs of pinks were added in by my Zig clean color real brushes.

For the Hummingbird, also from Stamplorations, I first stamped it on watercolour paper with Versamark and heat embossed it using Wow embossing powder. I then had a lot of fun colouring it with my Zigs! I fussy cut it and stuck it onto my card.

The “Love you” die cut from Xcut added the balance I think it needed on the left, along with the pink sequin.

So I hope you like my “many mediums” card and leave me a comment to let me know what you thought! Hope its heating up where you are too.

Sparkly ombre background

Cards, Die cuts, Heat embossing

I was on a roll this week, with no kids and no outside commitments, all I did was make cards with my new stash received this week, learnt new techniques, and leave lots of love out in Blog land! I think I must have spent 10h a day just on card making activities…and I still can’t get enough of it! I am sooo lucky to have such a patient husband.

love you ombre pink.jpg

I made this card using the Easy Ombre background shown on Jennifer McGuire’s blog and I chose to follow the sketch over at Stick It Down and the colours from Color Throwdown. I first stamped this beautiful Floral background stamp from Echo Park in Versamark ink and heat embossed it with Wow clear sparkle embossing glitter. It gives an amazing effect but the stamped background becomes a little “prickly” to the touch, although it doesn’t hinder the shading.

To do the ombre background, I started by shading in Momento’s Rose bud, followed by Rhubarb stalk using Ranger’s mini ink blending tool to blend in the inks. As I didn’t have any chocolate inks, I mixed Potter’s Clay with black and I got chocolate! I then die cut the Love you Xcut die and stuck my embossed resist panel on a card stock, which I had coloured using Rhubarb Stalk again.

The light pink is not so light in real life but the light seems to just bounce off it and so it looks much lighter in the photo. I stamped the sentiment from The Ton on a label I cut using a die from the MFT Blueprint 20 set, using Versamark ink. Even though I used my Misti, it wasn’t easy to get the sentiment in the middle of my label, lol! While the ink was still wet, I brushed Bronze Perfect Pearls on it and the whole label to give it a light brown sheen.

This is going to a good friend of mine for St Valentine’s.

Watercolour shaker card

Cards, Die cuts, Interactive cards, Watercolor

Now that my first self designed hand made shadow box cards are finally out on Etsy and DeWanda, just in time for Chinese New Year, I have a little time to “play” in a few challenges before the orders come flooding in (wishful thinking)… :). I was happy to be able to make another watercolour card with my Brushos as they are my favourite colouring element!

This card was made right after I finished my heart shaker card with the shaving foam technique and I wanted to do a simple one layer watercolour card. Unfortunately I had to change my plans, so I decided to cut it out and make a shaker card instead!

To colour the front of the card, I masked the centre of the card stock with a heart die cut, sprinkled 4 different Brushos paint powders; lemon, emerald green, turquoise and purple, one vertical line after another, using just my hand to mask each line. I spritz water on it and the powders dissolved leaving this beautiful blend of colours! I then cut out a panel with Stamplorations Cutplorations “Crazy Double Running Stitch Rectangle Nesting Dies” which I have never used before!

magic shaker card cu.jpg

I chose this text from Riley & Company because Brushos work like magic to me! I was going to stamp the sentiment onto the masked heart but a closer look showed some spots I didn’t notice before, so I had to cut it out and make a shaker card instead. I cut the heart using my X-cut die and proceeded to make the shaker bit in the heart.  Its a see right through shaker card so the sentiment is stamped right on the inside of the card. The back of the shaker card has a border of a larger heart to mask the adhesive of the shaker card.

magic watercolour shaker card inside.jpg

I really loved how the colours on this card turned out but i’m still not convinced about the shaker card bit, wasn’t quite the CAS effect i was going for. In hindsight, I guess I could have just glued a clean heart over the soiled one. What do you think?

Before I leave I can’t help but show off my shadow box cards I designed for Chinese New Year. Took me a week to before I was finally happy with the design and colours used to decorate it, so I’m quite proud of them! 🙂

cny card collage.jpg

I designed them in my Silhouette studio and cut it with the Silhouette portrait plotter. Stamped Technique Junkies “Asian Women” stamp all over and and heat embossed it with Wow embossing powder. Even the sides of the boxes are decorated and the back has the Chinese New year greeting and a hole to put the led light.

As its completely new, I couldn’t help but enter this in Simon Says Stamp’s Work it Wednesday Make something new challenge.

Thanks for stopping by and Have a great week!
