Creative with Stamps – Come play with us!

Cards, Creative With Stamps, mothers day card, Zig clean color real brush

Hi all, its the 15th of the month so I’m sending out a friendly reminder that you can share your cards with us at Creative with Stamps, until the end of the month, if you have made a “Mother” themed card.

I was a little enthusiastic about stamping the little flowers from Pink Fresh Studio’s “Unicorn Dream” stamp set. So instead of having whimsical flowers artfully strewn around, it looks a little like a mess of overgrown wildflowers! Lol! Anyway i love this funny stamp set from Simon Says Stamp called “Mother’s Day Zingers” and I’ve used the sentiments from this set in most of my Mother’s Day cards this year, to give to my daughter’s friends. I stamped the black strip from Winnie & Walter on the right cause I realised my whole card was too much to the left…. oh well adds some contrast I guess!

Well I hope you enjoyed this card and that you’ll join us in this challenge. Thanks for your comments, they’re like little hugs to me!

Have a great day!

Creative with Stamps & More – Mother’s Day card & origins

Cards, Creative With Stamps, mothers day card, Watercolor

Hi all.  Its the 1st of the month so another challenge begins at Creative with Stamps and the theme this month is Mother as Mother’s Day in most parts of the world is on May 13th, except the UK where it was on the 11th of March. We have a generous sponsor MHK Designs who are giving away 3 products of your choice from their Etsy store so I hope to see many of your cards with the Mother theme in the link up!

05 Mothers day W&W.jpg

I made my card using a Heart stencil from Stamplorations which I inked up with Spun Sugar distress oxide inks, and a stamp from Winnie and Walter called Big Hugs. I first stamped this cute image with Versafine black ink onto 300g watercolour paper and cut it with my Brother Scan and Cut. I then water coloured it, trying to give it a more “artsy” look! I really love the sentiment from Altenew Precious Moments set, which has very beautiful sentiments for parents and children. Unfortunately I stamped it crooked and unevenly…and I even used my Misti! I didn’t want to twice stamp it as I’m always afraid to smudge my  sentiments… The ribbon was a scrap in my drawer so unfortunately I don’t really know where it comes from.

05 Mothers day W&W cu.jpg

Do you know the origins of Mother’s Day? It started in the US in 1907 with the efforts of a devoted daughter, Anna M. Jarvis of Philadelphia. She did it to memorialise the work of her mother, Ann Jarvis, who started “Mother’s Work Days” to improve the sanitation and avert deaths from disease-bearing insects and seepage of polluted water. A few years later in 1914, President Woodrow Wilson signed a proclamation designating the second Sunday in May Mother’s Day, and within a few years, the idea gained worldwide prominence! Now isn’t that truly a labor of love from one mother to all mothers and the greatest show of love from a daughter for her mother! Well I hope this little history lesson inspires you to do something nice for your mothers on Mother’s Day and not just giving something nice… although I know if my kids remember the day at all I would be ecstatic! Lol!

Well I hope you liked my card and that you’ll be inspired to join in our challenge at Creative with Stamps with your beautiful cards honouring your mothers. Do pop over to my team mates blog and leave them some love as they inspire you with their wonderful creations!

Thanks for stopping by and your comments always make me so happy! Have a Great Day!

Addicted to stamps and More – CAS card

Addicted to stamps

Hi all! Its Wednesday so time for another challenge at Addicted to Stamps and More! This week we have a CAS – clean and simple theme, so show us your cards with lots of open space and minimal embellishments.

April pink fresh studio main

The card I made today to inspire you is not very Clean but its simple to make. I just covered a piece of Yupo paper with my Spectrum Noir illustrator alcohol markers, using Cobalt, Lilac, and Hydrangea colours. I then added a few drops of alcohol hand gel randomly on my paper and moved it around with a dry wet wipe I had on hand, to mix and blend the colours. I then die cut it with the beautiful die from Pick Fresh Studio called “Bright side of Life”.

To add a little more detail on my card, although I know I should have left it at that to make it CASer…, I stamped one of the stripe stamps from Winnie and Walter’s “Scenery Stripes” stamp set all down the left side of the card with distress oxide inks and went over it with a water brush to have graded looks on each line.

Well I hope you liked my card today and that you’ll pop over to the Addicted to Stamps and More challenge blog to admire my teammies cards and leave them some love too! Have a great day!

Stretch your supplies

Card Challenge, Cards, Mama Elephant, My Favorite Things, Zig clean color real brush

There’s a new card challenge run by the amazing Darnell called Twofer Card Challenge where you have to make two different occasion cards using the same stamps and dies. I love this challenge as it enables me to use the same stamp or die set more than once without being repetitive. As I normally only use my stamps once before moving onto the next one, this will make me feel that I have really used my supplies and less guilty about buying new ones! 😉 Thanks so much Darnell! :))

Twofer Feb challenge.jpg

So for my first participation, I went further than using just one stamps/dies sets to make two cards. I used 3! The same Abstract stencil by My Favorite Things, Heart die by XCut and Nom Nom Kitties stamp set by Mama Elephant.

nom nom kitty couple

To make the first card, I diecut the heart from Xcut and used it as a mask to stencil in my distress oxides through the MFT Abstract stencil.  The heart diecut also has a faint stencilled image as I put it behind my stencil when I was wiping off the inks with a wet wipe. I darkened the original image so you could see the stencilled heart below.

I stamped the kitties onto a white card stock and FUSSY CUT it!!! I have a Brother scan and cut and I still have to fussy cut some images when the machine decides not to pick up the image! 😡 Anyway carrying on, I coloured my kitties with my Zig clean color real brushes, stuck them onto the heart and stuck the heart onto the card. As I didn’t have the sentiment I wanted, I created it using my Artemio  label maker.

nom nom kitty single

For the 2nd card, I used the negative of my diecut heart as a mask to colour in the heart through the same MFT stencil and distress oxides again. The kitty from the same Mama Elephant stamp set was coloured in using my Zigs as well. The sentiment from Winnie and Walter was stamped with Versafine ink and it implies a good birthday is one where we get to eat good food. Any Asian will understand as we’re all foodies!

Well I hope you enjoyed both my cards.  I ‘m also trying to make less flower cards so hopefully this will be a start of a series of cute cards before I go back to my flowers! Thanks for visiting and your comments make my day!!

The Sisterhood of Crafters – Let the Sparkle Fly!

Cards, Derwent graphik line painters, Simon says Stamp, The Sisterhood of Crafters, WoW embossing powder

Its a new challenge over at The Sisterhood of Crafters and our chief Sistah Darlene has chosen this month’s theme and its “Let the Sparkle Fly”. So make anything with bling and/or sparkle and join in the fun!

mandala products

I knew exactly what I was going to do for this challenge with my newly purchased Simon Says Stamp Elisabeth background stamp and it was a spinner card that I was going to make…with lots of glimmer and shine! I first stamped it with Versamark on a white card stock and heat embossed it with Wow gold embossing powder. With a large stamp like that its better to press your paper onto your stamp instead of the other way around.  I then used Sizixx scallop die and cut a circle in the middle of my card stock AND my card base so that the scallop circle would line up perfectly. I fussy cut the flower in the middle of the scallope circle I just diecut as that would be my spinner.

SSS mandala main

I painted everything with my Derwent Graphik line painters and once it dried, I water coloured the background with Winsor and Newton paints. As the Derwent pens dry waterproof, this was very easy to do. The only problem was that I forgot to use watercolour paper so the result is a little splotchier than I would have liked. I cut the Congrats sentiment from Winnie & Walter from blue glitter cardstock as this card is going to someone’s 50th birthday.

SSS mandala 50

To create the spinner, have a look at my post here. For the other side of the spinner, I cut out another flower, coloured it with Prima Marketing gold watercolour highlights, let it dry and wrote 50 over it. Here’s a video of my spinner in action!

Before I end this post I also wanted to share a new product I just got for photographing my cards. I was so fed up of setting up my photo station or not being able to take good pics at night that I finally cracked and bought a photo box. I got it on Amazon and it costs around 30€. On the left is how I used to take pics and on the right is my new photo box. Its very easy to set up and it comes incorporated with led lights and a usb cable. Unfortunately one of my kids took my usb cable by mistake so I can’t show it to you lit up, but here is the link to the product. I got the 40x40x40cm and its perfect for my cards and paintings.

The photo on the left is with daylight using my old photo station and the photo on the right is using my new photo box at night! So happy I finally got it!

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you’ll hop over to The Sisterhood ofCrafters challenge blog to leave my “sistahs” some love and join in the fun. I look forward to seeing your creations there!
