With this ring I thee wed…

Altenew, Brushos paint powder, Cards, Die cuts, Heat embossing, stamping, Stencil, The Ton stamps, Watercolor, WoW embossing powder

I attended a friend’s wedding this weekend and it is so nice to have 1.Young enough friends & 2. Friends who still believe in marriage! ( I guess those 2 go together…). During the marriage we were asked to write notes they would read 1 year later and I was struggling to try and write some words of wisdom that would help them have a better marriage. Most of what I could think of would have been advice too late; like “if you love his faults too then he’s the one for you…” or “marry your best friend…”. General advice like “Don’t go to bed angry” didn’t seem genuine as I’ve gone to bed angry a hundred times and got up feeling none the worse. 😉 Or, “If he loves you, everything else can be forgiven… like, are you kidding! So in the end I just wished them a marriage full of love, laughter… and lots of patience!! 🙂

I made 2 cards for them, one from me and one for a friend who was invited to the same wedding. The one above was done in colours she loves and I had a lot of pleasure colouring those beautiful The Ton stamps again with my Zigs. I first stamped them in Versamark and heat embossed the Wow embossing powders I sprinkled on top. The sentiment comes from Justrite “Wedding wishes vintage” collection.

I die cut the centre with a Spellbinders die and layered it so it stood out.

The next card was made by first adding a pearl embossing paste through the Altenew “Halftone stencil” and letting it dry. I then created the coloured background by sprinkling my Brusho paint powders on the card and spritzing it with water

I then used a heart die from XCut to cut out the beautiful heart, adhered it on the card and then added the die cut poenies from Altenew, which I had first stamped with Versamark and heat embossed with Wow embossing powder.

I didn’t really have a suitable wedding sentiment to add on the top so I hand write “Together forever” with a gold pen.

This is the first time I stamped on Vellum and I must say I love the results!

Wedding card

My cousin is getting married in Marseille, France in 10 days. Sadly I can’t attend as I’m organising our school’s largest fund raising event of the year on the same weekend! I am going to London for her hen’s night this weekend though and I am super excited about it! She has a fabulous night lined up for us and I am going to enjoy eating great Asian food and visiting the Tate Gallery! I will definately post some pics next week when I get back.

As her wedding will be pastel themed, and she is inclined more towards artsy than flowers, I went through tons of methods to try and create a beautiful pastel background card WITHOUT flowers. Here is what I decided to give her.

pearl pens.png

I made the background with pearl pens! I just dotted pearls all over the card and used my fingers to smear them and went over it with the back of my water pen! I first tried using another card stock to flatten the pearl dots but I forgot they have some sort of glue in them and when I lifted the card, it ended up taking half the paper with it! Lol! I stamped the sentiment from Justrite “Wedding wishes vintage” collection with Momento Tuxedo black ink. To get the clear black background I stamped it twice with my new MISTI!! (Love it!). I cut out the circle with my Sizzix circle dies before adhering it in the middle. I then mounted the card on a black card stock to give it an elegant look.

I’m not sure if the card is a completely pastel theme in the end, as the green turned out darker once I smeared it. But I love the look and I hope she will love it too!

Latest update: This card was picked as a Favourite in the Happy Little Stampers Mixed media – Textures themed challenge! I’m so honoured as the other cards were simply amazing! Check them out here.

Wedding card

Not many people tie the knot these days, but this year I know of 3 people who are going to say “I do” and so its such a pleasure to make a wedding card. This one is going to a friend who’s getting married in Mykonos, Greece in 2 weeks!

It looks really simple but was not so easy to put together as I wanted to combine 3 challenges to do this! One was to use Designer paper but still make it look CAS (clean and simple) for the Less is More challenge, the other was the CAS(E) this Sketch challenge which had those bands going through the card,CTS_170.jpg

and the third was Happy Little Stampers Inlaid die cutting challenge. I wanted to add some designer paper to form the bands but to make it look CAS and fulfill the 3rd challenge I was going to inlay it into the card. I was going to use double sided paper for the bands as I wanted everything to be seen from the inside of the card too! I went through the whole process in my mind all through my acupuncture session this morning and once I got home I was zen and ready!

I first embossed the card, cut out the tag in the card with my Big Shot Plus, where my sentiment was going to be. I then cut the same tag from a black card stock and stamped and sprinkled embossing powder and heat embossed one side with Congratulations, waited until it was really dry, and repeated the whole process on the other side with another sentiment. I then to proceeded to slice my bands from the card.

I had to use masking tape to hold it together at one point, so I could slice the other band. I chose my designer paper and sliced them to the same width as the bands on the card. I turned the card around and assembled my card and stuck masking tape to hold the pieces together.

I took a clear adhesive plastic sheet, I bought mine at a DIY store, the type you cover your windows with, or you can buy protective book covers, and cut it to the size of the card. I stuck it on and once everything was secured, I could still lift the plastic and remove the masking tapes.

I flipped the card around to the front side and filled in the card with my bands and sentiment and it was DONE! Whew!

On the left the front of the card, on the right, the inside of the card.

Hope you liked it!

P.S I just noticed that I chose a bird in the cage image for the band strips…lol! No pun to marriage intended!

These are the products I used.
