Hi all, its Wednesday so another challenge starts over at Addicted to Stamps and More and this week, we have a pretty photo inspiration for you to help you create something new for our challenge. I can’t wait to see your wonderful creations!

hero-arts-mouse-tea-party-cu.jpg

I was inspired by the garland of flowers around the chipboard and the lovely pastel colours to create my Thank You card, using only the small flowers from Hero Arts Mouse Tea Party stamp set which I stamped with distress inks and coloured in with a water brush. The sentiments came from Hero Arts Thank You stamp set.

So, a very easy and enjoyable card to make and I hope you enjoyed it. Thanks for stopping by and have a great rest of the week!

Happy New Year 2019!

a2z Scrapbooking, Cards, Hero Arts

Its already another new year and another year that went by so fast that I feel like it was just yesterday I was saying the same thing about the year before. Did it go by so fast that I regretted not living it enough though? To that I can resolutely say a huge “No”! I know that every minute of my life was filled doing things I wanted to do (or had to like cleaning the house…😉)

I can hear some of you saying that I’m so lucky to be able to do what I want but I don’t think its luck, its just the choices we make. And yes we all have choices, some are harder to make with bigger compromises or consequences but it has to be our own choice and not something imposed, if not we just go through life with regrets or blaming others for all the misfortunes in our lives. Like housework for example. I had to make my peace with it, if not it was making me miserable every single time I did it. I could have hired a maid, but the desire to use that money for something else was stronger than my dislike of housework, so I made a choice. Giving up my job of 21 years which provided a good salary, incredible benefits, a chance to progress & my financial independence, was also a choice I made, as I preferred to be with my family. I tease them and say that I did it for them, but it was for me, as I wanted to take advantage of the last few years they’re in the house before they leave to study abroad.

I also have more time for my crafts and its so great to start this year by inviting you to join us in our first challenge of 2019 over at a2z Scrapbooking where the theme is “Anything Goes”! I think it so fitting. A New Year, a new chance to do anything you want, in crafts or in your life! So I hope you’ll join us and start 2019 by creating something new and sharing it with us in the link up here. Don’t forget you can use my code Gwendolyn15 to get 15% off your order of $25 and above. Remember they take custom orders so if they don’t have it in stock, you can just order it!

I chose to watercolour a “Thank You” card using Hero Arts Dahlia stamp I was lucky enough to receive from Karen my team mate here on the a2z Scrapbooking DT team, and this card is to thank her for the generous gifts she gave me this Christmas. I also want to thank all of you out there for the support & love you leave me through your kind comments throughout 2018, I appreciated each and every one of them, so this card is also for you.

I wish you all happy new Hopes, happy new Dreams and happy new Everything for 2019.

Stamplorations Blossom Sprays Thank You cards

Cards, Stamplorations, wonderful wednesday coloring

Hi all! Are you all recovering from the festive eating and in a food coma now? I know I am, especially from cooking a sit down Christmas dinner for 20 people last night, something I’ve never done before! But having friends and family stay with us has been so helpful as they’re the perfect guests, cooking, cleaning and they’re also such fun people to be with!

Nevertheless its so nice to just be able to relax now and as all the shops are still closed, and its cold outside, I can justify staying in to share some cards I made over at the Stamplorations blog where I’m guest designing for the last time for their Wonderful Wednesday Colouring. It has been such a pleasure challenging myself to find different ways to colour using their stamps dies and stencils and for my last post for them I decided to try and colour the same stamp 3 different way! I used their beautiful Blossom Sprays stamp as lilies are my favourite flowers, and made Thank You cards as I now need thank you cards for all those wonderful presents I received.

As usual I’ll start with the easiest card I made which I did by first adding watercolours to the background of my card using Prima Marketing metallic watercolours and once it was dry, I just stamped the whole image on it, followed by the Thanks sentiment that came from Stamplorations “Thank You” stamp builder. Isn’t the shine on the card amazing?

My second card looks a little more difficult, using just greys from my Koi coloring brush pens that I got awhile ago but have never used, but it really wasn’t that hard to colour. I first used the lightest greys and built up to my darkest greys where I wanted to give some depth like the inner and outer parts of the petal. I then added the “thanks” diecut from Stamplorations and coloured it with watercolours too but adding a little sparkle by brushing it over with my Spectrum Noir sparkle pens. Yes those specks of “white paints” are actually the sparkle in the light!

For my last card, I wanted to do a more realistic botanical style water-colouring using only 2 colours for the most of the flower and a touch of red for the buds. I have to admit though that the paints I used, Green Gold and Cascade Green by Daniel Smith, have a tinge of other colours in them, a little yellow in Green Gold and a little blue in Cascade Green, so I wasn’t using only two colours. I tried to create dimension in my painting by making some leaves much darker than my flowers so that the flowers would stand out. Finally I splattered some “Goosebumps” on it to create “water droplets”.

Well I hope you enjoyed the different ways I coloured my cards as much I enjoyed colouring them and being a guest designer over at Stamplorations. Thanks so much Shery for having me these last three months! It was also great to design beside my talented co-guest designers Vinita & Renée. Don’t forget that if you comment on my blog, over at Stamplorations and on the other guest designers blog, you stand a chance to win a gift voucher to shop at the Stamplorations shop!

Happy Holidays everyone!

Thankful for…

Blog, Painting, Winsor and Newton watercolors

Its been a great week! The house is (relatively) clean, I’ve been exercising, I spent a wonderful day yesterday just with my daughter… and I finally finished painting 75 cards for a German charity!  I feel like I really accomplished stuff this week and it feels so good.

So I guess that’s my recipe for happiness, spending quality time with my family, exercising, painting for a cause…and yes having a clean house especially since I hate cleaning, this has to be my greatest accomplishment, week after week. 😉 I’ve also made a conscious decision to not go back to work. I was seriously thinking about it these last few weeks, and even had a job interview for a great company, but I realised that going back to work was just a reaction to my fear. Fear of the future. I started my 54th year and I was afraid that if I didn’t look for a job now, in 4 years, when the kids are gone, I’ll really be too old to find a job if I needed one. However I finally decided not to let fear decide what I really want to do,  which is spend these last few years just being there for my kids, before they go off to university somewhere in the world, but not here in Germany.

This may seem strange to my friends who know I haven’t been working for the last 5 years. For me though, I always had my French job to fall back on so I didn’t really have to decide anything, but letting it go made me realise I had to decide what I was going to do for the rest of my life. So even if it seems like I’m just continuing what I’ve been doing the last few years, in my head its different and I have to say I’m more at peace with myself now.

So today, I’m grateful for many things. For my husband who can’t give up his job just yet to be a blues guitarist 😉 so I can do what I want, for my kids who, even though they are teenagers, are loving, rarely moody and still agree to spend an hour or so with us each day… for my friends (physical & virtual) who support me and patiently listen to my complaints, doubts and just general ramblings, for having a creative passion that challenges me each day but brings me such joy, and for my health, even if my arthritis is telling me I’m not so young anymore I can still do TRX!!

And you, what are you thankful for today?
