Using my Stash – Altenew

Altenew, Cards, Die cuts, Watercolor, Zig clean color real brush

Hi all, today is the first post of my new project called “Using my Stash”! 😆 I have a policy that I don’t put away my stamps until I use them, this is supposed to deter me from buying new stamps… key word here being “supposed”. LoL! Although I did actually manage to use all of my new purchases during summer and since I won quite a few gift vouchers as prizes for card challenges and being lucky at blog hops, I went on a spending spree and here’s what my new un-used stash looks like now!!

Help! So I am now hell bent on using a new stamp/die everyday and to start with, here are two cards using Altenew’s layered floral cover die… that is not part of my new stash! Haha! Its like during the sales isn’t it. You go for the sales and end up buying something not on sale! But I promise, I’ll do a post with something from my new stash tomorrow.

layered floral spring.jpg

This one I’ll call “Spring” as it looks so light and bright to me. I used only the die A of the Layered Floral cover die to diecut this piece and painted it with my Zigs clean color real brushes. I then sprayed a pink glimmer spray over the whole piece and it is nice and shiny in reality. I diecut the scallop piece using Sizzix scallop dies, stamped the sentiment from Stamplorations with Stazon black ink and sprayed it with the pink glimmer spray too. I adhered the coloured panel onto my turquoise card base to finish.

My 2nd card I obviously called “Autumn”. This card was even easier to make than the first as I just cut it from one of my failed watercolour attempts! I stuck it on a dark brown card stock and adhered the whole panel on a white card base so its a little raised. A few sparkly gems and the card was finished!

Well I hope you liked my cards and you’ll come back tomorrow to see the first creations from my new stash. I’ll be using some cute stamps from Clearly Besotted to make something rare for me, cute critter cards!

Thanks for stopping by and I love reading your comments!

I was inspired by the inspiration photo to make this Water shaker card. Yes there really is water in my card! I made a photo tutorial to show you how I did it too, so sit back with a cuppa and enjoy!

I first cut an oval shape on the front of my kraft card, using my Spellbinders oval die. I then coloured a white card stock with Salty Ocean distress ink and cut it with the same oval die, before gluing it onto the inside of a kraft card.

I took a 15cm x 10cm (5,9′ x 3,9′) ziplock bag and filled it with just a little water and some blue sequins. I carefully squeezed all the air out of the bag before zipping it shut. I then adhered this on top of my blue coloured oval with double sided tape.

The end of the bag was taped underneath the card with double sided tape AND a large sellotape to ensure it was well sealed!

I then sealed shut the top of the card with double sided tape again, making sure there was tape around the oval shape too.

I cut a strip of vellum and stamped  a sentiment from CAS-ual Friday’s Mon Ami stamp set, with StazOn black ink. I added this on top of the card, securing the ends underneath the card with double sided tape. All I had to do now was colour my flower, which also comes from CAS-ual Friday’s Mon Ami stamp set, using distress inks and a waterbrush. I die cut it using the co-ordinating die and glued it onto the bag and vellum using UHU glue stick. I wanted it to look like a lotus floating on water.

I then stuck the whole panel onto another kraft card and my card was finished! Have a look to see how the sequins swirl and flow with the water below.

I would love to know what you thought of my first water card, so please leave me a comment below. Do go over and see the beautiful designs of my talented team mates over at the Calling All Sistahs Encouragement challenge too and play along with us!

No line Water colouring with Altenew Vintage Flowers + video

Altenew, Cards, no line watercolouring

I’m in the midst of learning a few techniques, like making slider cards and creating galaxy backgrounds. Here are 2 backgrounds I created. 1st one is with distress inks and 2nd with watercolours. The 3rd was done by my 12 yr olds Ines who looked at my efforts and said: “Mum let me show you how its done”… and proceeded to do just that… with cheap paints and sponges! Sigh life is not fair… :)) I should have video taped her process though as I love what she did! If you would like to see what I did with my galaxy backgrounds, come back on the 1st of August and you’ll see the full card… and for some exciting news too!

Anyway, I suddenly got the urge to go back to water colouring some flowers. Its sort of like a therapy for me now, as I go into a zone and just concentrate on water colouring. Its also very frustrating when my attempts don’t turn out the way I wanted, like these.

Looking at them now I just realised they look like a tutorial on how to darken your watercolour shades! Lol! Even though I was disappointed, I received so many encouraging remarks from the Altewnew Fan club Facebook page that I will try to make a card with them soon. I’m so thankful for those amazingly supportive crafters on social media!

For today though, the card I actually want to show is one I made for Altenew’s July inspiration challenge. Its a bit late, but better than never I always say! I also made a YouTube video below showing how I water coloured the flowers.

I used Altenew’s Vintage Flowers and water coloured them using my new Winsor & Newton watercolours on watercolour paper. I first stamped the flowers using distress inks and the leaves with Color Box pigment inks as they both can be water coloured to blend in.

Once it was done, I die cut the water coloured panel with MFT Blueprint 20 scallop rectangle die. I stamped the sentiment from The Project Bin onto a vellum sheet I cut using my craft scissors. Stazon is the best ink I use for stamping on Vellum, as it dries quickly and doesn’t smudge, but its hell to take off my stamps!

altenew vintage flowers wc.jpg

I flicked some vintage brown water colour on it, added some sequins and adhered the panel to a fuschia card base and it was done!

I do hope you liked it and I would love to know what you think! Thanks for stopping by!
