AECP – Impressive Heat Embossing

Altenew Academy, Cards, Heat embossing, WoW embossing powder

The title of my post today is what I hopefully accomplished on my card after watching the 6 videos at Altenew Academy’s “Impressive heat embossing“course, today. I used to be known for my heat embossing when I started making cards but just the basic heat embossing to use as a resist for watercolouring or ink blending.

Ombre embossing products

But after this course, I now know so many other ways of heat embossing. Like the 2 techniques I used today; ombre heat embossing and water splashes heat embossing. For the ombre look, I stamped my “Floral Shadow” stamp from Altenew with Versamark clear embossing ink and added the “Heart Throb” red/gold powder, shook the excess off and added the Tafetta pink, shook the excess off and with the same method, added Emerald City and then Primary Lemon embossing powders from Wow Embossing Powder. I then used my heat gun to melt the powders and set them.

Ombre embossing cu

For the glittering splatters around my ombre flower, I followed the method by Svetlana Marchenko and splattered clear water on my card, added the embossing powder & melted it with my heat gun. Unfortunately it didn’t work for me as I didn’t realise my embossing powder, called “Santorin”, is actually Sparkles premium glitter which means it needs glue. So I added spots of glue and added the glitter powder, pressed them in and shook off the excess.

For the sentiment, I heat embossed a strip of paper in gold embossing powder and then diecut the “Thanks” sentiment from Stamplorations and adhered it onto this panel. I then cut it with Simon Says Stamp rectangle stitched die and added a yellow rectangle border on foam adhesive around the diecut panel to finish.

Well I hope you liked my card and I really do appreciate you taking the time to stop by my blog and leave me a comment. Wishing you a wonderful creative weekend!

Tropical Buzz

Cards, Twofer card challenge, Zig clean color real brush

I’m dead tired as I’m writing this after a week of guests and a weekend of late nights partying, but I had this idea to make these cards for a few weeks now ever since I saw the theme at The Twofer Challenge was “Trees” and so I pushed my tired eyes to their limit to make the cards before the challenge ended tonight.

palm trees

I’m still in my tropical mood so I used the palm trees from WPlus9 “Flock Yeah” stamp set for both cards & my Zig clean color real brush pens to colour them. The first one has the pina colado from Clearly Besotted’s “Mix it Up” sitting on a leaf from Flora & Fauna’s “Tropical Vibes” set and the Party Time from Altenew’s “Birthday Bash”. Very appropriate at the moment as I seem to be non stop partying with end of school year parties & friends leaving to other job postings. Its always a bittersweet time in our expat life.

palm trees cocktail.jpg

The second one just has the same palm trees which I stamped in a frame with Momento’s New Sprout, before using gentle flicks of my hand with my Zigs to try & create a feathery leafy look to the leaves.  I then stamped “A little Progress” sentiment from Stamplorations with Versafine Onyx black ink in my Misti, as I had to stamp it afew times to get good coverage. I truly believe in this sentiment as I see how my water-colouring has improved over the last 6 months with frequent practise. So much so that when I don’t watercolour, like this weekend, I start to suffer withdrawal symptoms so I’m glad I got my fix!

Well thanks for stopping by and I’d love to hear what you think of my cards. Have a great day!

Creative with Stamps & More – Mother’s Day card & origins

Cards, Creative With Stamps, mothers day card, Watercolor

Hi all.  Its the 1st of the month so another challenge begins at Creative with Stamps and the theme this month is Mother as Mother’s Day in most parts of the world is on May 13th, except the UK where it was on the 11th of March. We have a generous sponsor MHK Designs who are giving away 3 products of your choice from their Etsy store so I hope to see many of your cards with the Mother theme in the link up!

05 Mothers day W&W.jpg

I made my card using a Heart stencil from Stamplorations which I inked up with Spun Sugar distress oxide inks, and a stamp from Winnie and Walter called Big Hugs. I first stamped this cute image with Versafine black ink onto 300g watercolour paper and cut it with my Brother Scan and Cut. I then water coloured it, trying to give it a more “artsy” look! I really love the sentiment from Altenew Precious Moments set, which has very beautiful sentiments for parents and children. Unfortunately I stamped it crooked and unevenly…and I even used my Misti! I didn’t want to twice stamp it as I’m always afraid to smudge my  sentiments… The ribbon was a scrap in my drawer so unfortunately I don’t really know where it comes from.

05 Mothers day W&W cu.jpg

Do you know the origins of Mother’s Day? It started in the US in 1907 with the efforts of a devoted daughter, Anna M. Jarvis of Philadelphia. She did it to memorialise the work of her mother, Ann Jarvis, who started “Mother’s Work Days” to improve the sanitation and avert deaths from disease-bearing insects and seepage of polluted water. A few years later in 1914, President Woodrow Wilson signed a proclamation designating the second Sunday in May Mother’s Day, and within a few years, the idea gained worldwide prominence! Now isn’t that truly a labor of love from one mother to all mothers and the greatest show of love from a daughter for her mother! Well I hope this little history lesson inspires you to do something nice for your mothers on Mother’s Day and not just giving something nice… although I know if my kids remember the day at all I would be ecstatic! Lol!

Well I hope you liked my card and that you’ll be inspired to join in our challenge at Creative with Stamps with your beautiful cards honouring your mothers. Do pop over to my team mates blog and leave them some love as they inspire you with their wonderful creations!

Thanks for stopping by and your comments always make me so happy! Have a Great Day!

Spring come back!

Altenew, Card Challenge, Cards, Die cuts

The weather here has been, is and going to stay, in the negative for awhile and its the coldest winter I’ve experienced since moving to Germany 5 years ago. Theres snow everywhere and while its beautiful, I am wishing Spring will come soon. I never really liked the heat, coming from Singapore, its probably a strange thing to say, but we spend all our time avoiding the heat and 90% humidity that we never really get used to it I guess! So I never thought I’d say this, but now I really miss the heat! 3 months is a long time to be permanently cold.

So I decided to create Spring on a card of mine! This card was inspired by the challenge over at Altenew and I’m so glad I can play again, I have so many Altenew stamps now that I don’t really have an excuse for not joining in more often!

Feb challenge main.jpg

I decided to do something I don’t do very often and see if I could make a nice card by just stamping my stamps, no water colouring for once! With the beautiful Flora Shadow stand, coordinating dies ad Altenew inks, it’s hard to go wrong though. I first stamped the frame from the Sweet Friend stamp set with clear Versamark ink and heat embossed it with Wow’s white embossing powder. I die cut my white card stock with Stamplorations Crazy Double Running Stitch rectangle die and adhered it to a light pink card base with my Scotch ATC.

Feb challenge cu

I didn’t want to leave the background completely white so I flicked some pink splatters with my Zig clean color real brush (Yes I couldn’t resist using some watercolour in the end…). I stamped “XOXO”, which also comes from the Sweet Friend stamp set, with Versafine ink, then arranged my flower die cuts and adhered then on with UHU glue stick. To finish I added afew black Nuvo drops. Still haven’t got the hang of making perfect round dots, guess I should watch a few videos, LoL!

Well I hope this card has brought a little Spring into your lives if you’re under snow too. Thanks for stopping by and your comments warm my cold days!

Getting my Mojo back

Cards, Spectrum noir, The Ton stamps, Zig clean color real brush

After 2 months of just dealing with only our house move, you would think that I couldn’t wait to get back to crafting. And although I missed it terribly, I just couldn’t seem to get down and start creating again. All the cards posted during the month of January were done before Christmas, so in reality I had only made 1 card in January!! What happened to my creative mojo? Well, for one, as my craft room was the last to be unpacked, I still had 10 boxes piled up in it, so getting to my craft table alone was like gong through an obstacle course, and I cannot craft in a mess!

And appetite comes with eating, as we/they say in French and the opposite applies too. The less I did, the less I felt like doing. Luckily or unluckily, you decide later, we might take on a student boarder and if she stays, she will have my craft room and I will haul all my stuff up to our spare bedroom. Why would I do such a crazy thing, to give up my large bright craft room and move all my stuff again??? Well I want a cleaning lady and with what the boarder will be paying, I can get one guilt free! ;))) So I had to clean up all the boxes in my craft room, as she was coming to stay for afew days to try out the school…and I wasn’t about to put a beautiful Italian 16 yr old in our spare room beside our bedroom, even if I trust my hubby 100% I’m not stupid!

feathered heart main

So once the craft room was clean, I felt like crafting again and decided just to sit down one day and start making a  card and this popped out! I was heavily influenced and inspired by TaeEun’s DT card for the February challenge and Effie’s use of feathers on her gorgeous cards!

To make the card, I first diecut a heart mask using Xcut’s layered hearts and then laid this mask over my card, taping it down with washi tapes. I used afew flowers & leaves from The Ton’s Fresh Cut Anemones set and stamped in the outline with Distress inks. I took my Spectrum Noir sparkly markers and coloured in the flowers, and used my Zig clean color real brush to colour in the rest.

feathered heart cu

I stamped in the German sentiment, which means “Thanks Alot, as this card is for a new neighbour who gave us a pot of flowers to welcome us to the neighbourhood, with Versafine black ink, but I should have cleaned the stamp first as its full of fibers from the wet wipes I used to wipe it and it transferred to my card… Once it was dry I stamped in the hummingbird from Stamplorations and covered it with feathers. To finish I added Nuvo drops, but as I’m new to them I still  haven’t really gotten the hang of how to make nice round flat dots!

Well I hope you liked my card, I’m going to start making a series of Happy New Year cards now although I’m very very late but better late than never right? And the people receiving it will now have more time to read it too!

Thanks for dropping by and I always enjoy your comments!
