Blossoming Bouquet

Addicted to Stamps and More, Cards, Spectrum noir, Watercolor

addicted to stampsHi all, its Wednesday, so another challenge begins over at Addicted to Stamps and More and this week’s theme is “Make Your Mark”, so bring out your pens, markers, colour pencils, watercolours… and show us your wonderful creations! Blossoming bouquet productsI coloured this gorgeous Peony(?) stamp from Crafters Companion called Blossoming Bouquet, using my new Aqua water-based markers by Spectrum Noir. These markers have a dual tip of a fine and brush tip. The fine tip makes it so convenient to deliver the right amount of watercolour to the small areas of my petals and create the “veins” of the flowers. I use the brush tip for larger areas.Blossoming bouquet cuThe sentiment comes from So Suzy stamps which I stamped using Spectrum Noir’s black water-proof dye ink. I added afew paint splatters before die-cutting my watercolour panel with Sue Wilson’s stitched rectangle die. I matted this onto a yellow card base and my card was done!

Well, I do hope you’ll join in and I really look forward to visiting your cards over at the Addicted to Stamps and More challenge blog. Do make sure to visit my teammates’ cards too as they have beautiful creations to share with you.

Thanks for dropping by and I hope you have a wonderful day!

Beautiful Magnolias

Addicted to Stamps and More, Cards, The Ton stamps, Winsor and Newton watercolors

I stamped these beautiful Magnolias from The Ton almost 2 months ago, to watercolour them, but never found the right time and state of mind to do them till now. Then I was preparing a card for our “Anything Goes” challenge at Addicted to Stamps and More, and I don’t know why, but knowing the theme was “Anything Goes”, I gave myself “permission” to create whatever I liked.  Strange isn’t it?

The ton magnolia products.jpg

I guess with all the “obligations” I have at the moment – being on design teams, painting 75 cards for a charity event, even learning new methods of painting… I run out of time to do what I really want. Don’t get me wrong, of course I enjoy doing all the above, and no one forced me to do them, nevertheless, I have an objective in doing every one of those things, a purpose, so it was nice to just paint my magnolias, because I wanted to paint them. Anyway, sorry about rambling, I’m writing this at 22h30 with meditation music in the background, after afew glasses of wine, so…

The ton magnolia cu.jpg

Back to my card. It was stamped with Altenew’s Soft Lilac and painted with Winsor and Newton watercolours, with my new favourite brush, Raphael 8408 with the extra pointy tip. I cut the water-coloured panel with Sue Wilson’s stitched rectangle die, then used My Favorite Things scallop die to cut the window for my sentiment, which comes from “So Suzy” stamp, and mounted the outer frame on foam adhesive, to give it some dimension. A little (or alot) of Spectrum Noir sparkle pens over my magnolias finished the card. I really love how it shine!

In the end, even my Magnolia card has a purpose, to incite you to join us in our Anything Goes challenge at Addicted to Stamps and More. So what do you feel like making today?

Watercolouring with Distress Oxide inks + Video

Cards, Distress Oxide inks, Watercolor

Sometimes you want to make a card that doesn’t take 2h but still comes out looking good, and with this card I think I managed to do just that. Apart from the drying time, I think it only took me 15 minutes to make, a personal olympic record in card making for me! And I didn’t resort to using scraps either. 😉 I made a quick video to show how easy it was to make this card and you can find it at the end of my post.

distress oxide watercolour

I had just received my new distress oxide inks, which I had waited 3 weeks to receive… so I was really impatient to use them! I just sponged Mustard seed, Picked Raspberry, Peacock Feathers and Peeled Paint inks over the heat embossed magnolia from Clearly Besotted and sprayed a generous amount of water over the whole card. I then blended in the inks with my water brush.

The sentiment comes from So Suzy Stamps called “Gift Of You”. I really love all the sentiments they have, but this one has to be my favourite. Isn’t it beautiful? This card is for my daughter… just because.

Well I do hope you enjoyed the video and gave it a “thumbs up” and subscribed to my channel, if you haven’t done so already! Thanks for coming by and your comments really make my day!

I am an Artist!

Cards, Interactive cards, So Suzy stamps, Stamplorations, Watercolor

Its 5h30 now as I write this and I’m awake cause I have a raging fever and I’m waiting for the meds to take effect so I can go back to sleep! Whats keeping me awake is also thinking of all the cards I want to make… so I can’t be that sick after all LOL… or I’m just delirious! So forgive me if I start rambling (more than usual) or say something stupid… like my post title!

I also thought I should catch up with my blogging as I’ve had little time the last week since our return from our beach vacation in France, what with having 4-5 kids in the house as my kids had friends stay over and my hubby being away to look after his sick mum. So grab a mug/drink and bear with me while I share my thoughts with you.

I was starting another free 21 day meditation by Oprah and Deepak called Desire and Destiny and the first session had us close our eyes and ask ourselves who we are. So thats what I did and the first answer that instantly popped in my mind was “I am an Artist”! That answer really surprised me, as I have never considered myself creative, let alone an artist, because being an artist meant being good at my art and I’m a long way from that.

Since I started making cards though, I have learnt to be creative. Yes, I do believe creativity does not have to be innate but can be developed and cultivated and influenced by everything and everyone around us.  I have grown so much creatively, in the last year, just by trying new techniques and learning how to draw and watercolour. So now I am accepting that being an artist just means creating, good or bad, it doesn’t really matter, as long as I enjoy it. I can thus openly say: I am an Artist!

With that in mind, I want to share my first attempt at trying to create a watercolour scene. Its also a shaker card with the seahorse in the shaker part so when you shake it, it moves along with the sequins.

so suzy seahorse

I first water coloured my seahorse, from So Suzy stamps, with my Zigs watercolour brushes. I actually did it in the car on our long drive from Germany to France, using my Misti as a support to stamp and colour! LoL! I then fussy cut it and put it aside.

20170703_182556.jpg

Back on a normal table, I tried creating an algae forest with my Zigs, on watercolour paper, then stamped the plants, also from So Suzy. I mounted foam tape around this scene and added sequins and my seahorse in it.

20170714_173317

This went behind the blue card front, which is a part of a set of embossed cards my friend Monika from Creative with Monika, gave me, so I don’t know where its from. I had first coloured it with Distress inks and splattered water on it to create an underwater look before cutting a stitched rectangle window. The die cut word “hugs”, from Stamplorations, was also coloured with distress inks and water splattered before I die cut it with my Big Shot Plus.

I then mounted the whole card with foam tape, on a light blue card and it was finished! It didn’t take me too long and I’m happy I tried it. I will continue to try and play more with my watercolours as it gives me a lot of pleasure.. and thats what counts after all!

Thanks for bearing with me till the end and your comments are always appreciated!

Trompe l’Oeil

Brushos paint powder, Cards, Heat embossing, So Suzy stamps, stamping, Stamplorations, WoW embossing powder

“Trompe-l’œil is an art technique that uses realistic imagery to create the optical illusion that the depicted objects exist in three dimensions.” – Wikipedia. OK… my card is not that sophisticated, but I was going for that effect!

stamplorations marigold

I used to think using design paper on hand made cards was “cheating”, and so I put away all my beautiful paper, to be pulled out when I finally have the time to consecrate to scrapbooking. When the kids are gone and we are living in a considerably smaller place, cause we have to pay for the kids education in MIT or/and Harvard… (yes I can dream), so there will be almost no housework to do. No interruptions during the 4-6h I need to create one scrap booking page, to pick up the kids from school or make them meals, or clean their clothes/rooms/dishes/hair… unless of course, horrors, we live close to where they’re studying! If that happened, I think I will never be able to start scrapbooking again!

stamplorations marigold main

Anyway… what was  saying? Oh yes, using designer paper. I have been seeing a few of my favourite card makers use beautiful watercolour like design paper as backgrounds to their card, but adding a die cut or stamp which blends in or increase the beauty of the design paper. I was always fooled into thinking that the design paper was their own artwork, it was so beautiful yet artistic at the same time.

stamplorations marigold cu

So I decided to make one too. Unfortunately I can’t tell you where the gorgeous designer paper comes from as I only have 2 different loose sheets, which have been lying around on my craft table for a year at least! The beautiful flower, which I stamped in Versamark before heat embossing it with white Wow embossing powder comes from Stamplorations and its called “Marigold”. I absolutely love this stamp! I sprinkled Cambodge brushos powder on it and sprayed it with water before using my water pen to move the paint around.  I then fussy cut it and adhered it onto the designer paper.

stamplorations marigold sparkle

I brushed the centre of both flowers with clear Spectrum Noir sparkle pen and they twinkle in the light! The beautiful sentiment from So Suzy stamps was simply stamped in Versafine black ink.

I do love this card even though I used designer paper. Unfortunately it was made for my Auntie who has just lost her husband and I hope this will help a little.

Thanks for stopping by and let me know what you thought of my card!
