addicted to stamps & more

Hi all, I’m here with the first of my double posts today, to invite you to play along with us at Addicted to Stamps and More, where we have a beautiful photo inspiration of succulents. Feel free to join in with whatever inspires you in this picture, be it the plants themselves or the colours or the shapes and I look forward to see what you come up with.

Before I go onto my card I have to apologise for the lack of variety in my photos today as I gave away the card to my daughter’s classmate for his birthday, before I had the chance to take more pics, but I hope the quality of the card is enough ๐Ÿ˜‰ .

Onto my card. I recently purchased some stamps from Penny Black called “Happy Together” that had a row of succulents on it and I was so excited to use them for the first time for this challenge. I stamped them with Momento’s Tuxedo black ink and started colouring them in with my Zig clean color real brushes.ย  I even managed to add some detail on the first cactus from your left by adding darker vertical lines to create a multifaceted look to the cactus. I added some shading under and around the pots and splattered lots of black paint on the card. To finish, I stamped the sentiment from Altenew.

Fun facts about Cactus’s. Did you know the spines on them are actually highly evolved leaves and they protect the plant by preventing them from being eaten by animals & by providing shade to the plant. So the next time your clothes get ripped and a bit of cloth stays on, know that you are doing your bit to provide them shade… ๐Ÿ˜†

Well I hope you were inspired by my card and that you’ll join in our challenge at Addicted to Stamps and More. Do pop over to see the gorgeous creations my teammates have created just for your viewing pleasure and leave them some love too.

Thanks for stopping by and see you in my next post… in a few hours… where I’ll show you how to create seaweed like forms with rubber bands!

Peace Love and… Yoga

Cards, Ink Blending, Penny Black Stamps

Since I started yoga a few years back with a beautiful, wonderful and kind Slovenian friend of mine, Nina, I’ve become much stronger and fitter than I ever was (not counting my school years…) Because of it, even at age 52, I’m now able to do TRX classes and I just started spinning classes too! So if you have back, knee, hips, neck… problems like me :), try a little yoga and who knows, you might just be doing triathlons soon! But make sure you do it under a good instructor, as bad posture in yoga can be hurtful too. Here’s a pic of another friend and I doing some yoga poses with Lola, my Jack Russel, who’s doing the I want to play too pose!

yoga pose.jpg

So when I saw that Penny Black had some yoga stamps, I just had to get them, and I got to use them straight away for a birthday card of a yoga buddy! The set is called “Love and Yoga” and its really appropriate for anyone who loves yoga…and cake, as it has a few stamps with a yogi posing in different positions with cakes or balloons attached or balanced on her!

I used the image with the balancing cupcakes which I coloured with my new Spectrum Noir Illustrator alcohol markers and then fussy cut it. Did you notice I tried to give her abs? ๐Ÿ˜‰ย  It wasn’t easy to colour in such a small space so I kinda deformed her face too! LoL! For the background, I wanted to try and create a part of the lake where we hang out all summer, so I used my distress inks and the Radiating Rays from My Favorite Things. I would normally turn to my watercolours to do something like this, but ever since I did the class at Altenew called “Easy ink blending techniques”, I’m no longer afraid to bring out my inks!

To get the dual colour, I first sponged in Spiced Marmalade through the stencil, turned it until it covered the yellow rays, and then sponged in Salty Ocean. Make sure you clean your stencil before you add the second colour, if not it’ll take the colour you sponged in before too and you will not get the colour you were aiming for! (Guess how I found that out…) I created the rocks and earth with Victorian Velvet and Altenew’s Dark Chocolate. The sea was sponged in with Altenew Ocean Waves .

As I was in a rush and had to give her the card in the next minutes, I couldn’t do more than quickly stamp the sentiment with Momento ink and cut it with my Dahle 550 paper cutter.

Well I hope you liked my post and I wish you a really great day!

Namaste.

The Flower Challenge Guest Designer

Cards, Spectrum noir, The Flower Challenge

Hi all! I’m thrilled to be featured as a guest designer this month over at “The Flower Challenge“! I love making flower cards and this challenge has always been a favourite of mine as soon as its started, so when Viv asked me to be a guest designer this month, I was touched and honoured. The theme this month is vellum/acetate and it was a great opportunity for me to make a card using materials I don’t normally use.

the flower challenge

I decided to go with vellum as i love the soft look of the images behind vellum. I first stamped this beautiful hydrangea stamp from Penny Black with Altenew inks onto vellum paper and heat embossed it with clear sparkling Wow embossing powder. I then coloured the undersides of the flower with my Spectrum Noir Illustrator alcohol markers. I stamped the sentiment from another penny Black stamp set called “purr-fect message” in Stazon black ink as its fast drying.

I next worked on the card base itself by stamping the same stamp afew times, without heat embossing it and coloured it with Spectrum Noirs again. As Hydrangeas have large leaves, I looked through my whole stamp collection and finally found some in Altenew Perennial Beauty stamp set. Its a multi layer stamp set so I used my Color Box cat eyes set of 6 different greens pigment inks called Rain Forest to add depth and detail in my leaves.

To glue the vellum onto my card, I added Scrap Perfect’s “Best Glue Ever” (thats what its called!) , behind the places on the card I didn’t mind would be more visible. Even if the glue dries clear, I realised that it makes whatever areas I add it on, become more visible through the vellum. I then added some Goosebumps dots on the leaves to mimic water drops. Its actually a texture spray but I used other end of the spray funnel to add drops.

hydrangeas.jpg

The colouring of my hydrangeas was inspired by my own hydrangeas which I recently planted in my new garden. I planted 5 of them of various colours along with roses, peonies and lavenders. I never used to like flowers until I started making cards and painting! Now I can’t stop taking pics of them to hopefully do them justice one day on my paintings. My plantations are still small so look a little scarce, but here’s a few pics anyway.

Well I hope you liked my card and that you’ll pop over to The Flower Challenge and admire what the Design Team has created just to inspire you to play along with this month’s challenge! I know I’ll be making another card using vellum or acetate as I had so much fun creating this one!

Have a great day!

Addicted to Stamps and More – Make Your Mark

Addicted to Stamps and More, Card Challenge, Cards, Spectrum noir, The Ton stamps

addicted to stamps

Its time for another challenge at Addicted to Stamps and More, and for this week its “Make Your Mark”, so use your pencils, pens, markers, watercolour brushes…anything that makes a mark, and join in the fun!

The Ton main

I used my Spectrum Noir Sparkles brush pens to make my mark on the beautiful stamp from The Ton called Magnolia Fields and they really sparkle, as you can see in the video below. The sentiment from Penny Black is called “Forever and Always” and I stamped it with Stazon black ink on a piece of acetate. I then adhered it behind the scallop die cut from My Favorite Things.

Don’t you love that sparkle! I doubly enjoyed making today’s card as our house move is FINALLY over!! We handed over the former house today to the owners, after spending one month emptying, painting and cleaning it, while unpacking and setting up the new house at the same time. It was a very tiring month. It also didn’t help that I threw a housewarming/birthday party for 70 people last Saturday, to coincide with my daughter’s 13th birthday. Whew!

I am so glad I can now go back to life as I know it… making cards and painting…and visiting the blogs of all my talented crafty friends. I did so miss it! I still have to install proper lighting and set up a system to take videos in my craft room… and loads of boxes to unpack… but I’ll have till our next move to do that! LoL!

Well I hope you liked my card and that you’ll pop over to the Addicted to Stamps and More blog to see the amazing creations my fellow team mates have made to inspire you. Thanks for visiting and I always do appreciate your comments.
