Christmas in July

A Blog named Hero, Cards, Hero Arts

xmas in july.jpgHi all, its the 15th of July and we’re celebrating “Christmas in July” over at A Blog Named Hero! I started seeing this theme around the cardmaking world but never knew why people had it so I decided to ask our challenge blog organiser Linda and she sent me this link. So people actually do celebrate it and here I thought it was just to start making cards for Christmas!Fairy window fancy die cuSo I decided to make a card with the literal interpretation of our theme and make a summery Christmas card! It won’t go to waste either as that’s how our Christmases are back home in Singapore, and in other parts of the world too, like Australia… or in Miami. I remember spending one Christmas there with a friend, and Christmas Day found us dancing on the beach in shorts! This was so strange for me as I had never even celebrated Christmas on the beach in Singapore.Fairy window fancy die productTo make my card, I used Hero Arts Fairy Window fancy die on a piece of cardstock which I had coloured using 2 green Hero Arts ink cubes with a touch of my red Zig clean color real brush for the flowers. I removed the fairy on my diecut, to have space for the Christmas tree, which comes from the Hero Arts Winter Time Fun stamp set. I fussy cut the tree and coloured it with the green from the same ink set and then added white Nuvo drops onto the top of the tree and Ivory Nuvo drops to the bottom to give the impression that the snow was melting in the heat!Fairy window fancy die mainI added this border frame diecut onto my card base which I had coloured with “Splash” Hero Arts reactive ink to resemble the sky. The sentiment comes from WPlus9 and I thought it was very appropriate! The inside of the card reads “Love and Joy”.

Well, I hope you liked my card and you’re now inspired to bring out your Hero Arts Christmas supplies and make a Christmas card for our challenge. I look forward to seeing your wonderful creations in the A Blog named Hero link-up. Thanks for stopping by and YOUR comments warm me and bring me joy!

Have a great day doing something you love!

Pink and Main Coffee Christmas shaker card tutorial

Cards, Christmas Card, Coffee Lovers Blog Hop

Hi all! How are you all this wonderful Monday morning? I love the start of a new week as it feels like a new beginning each time and I have a whole week to get to do things I love or a new chance to do what I couldn’t do the week before. This week, I’ll be concentrating on finishing my Christmas cards and making and sending Christmas presents. Hopefully they’ll get to all my family friends around the world in time!

Watercolor embossed bg ccu

Today’s shaker card & tag was made for a guest feature over at Paru’s cardmaking challenge blog as I was lucky enough to be chosen as one of the winners in her November “Thanks” challenge. I made it a coffee themed card so I could join in the 2018 Fall/Winter Coffee Lovers blog hop too!

watercolour embossing.jpgTo make my card, I started with the watercolour embossed background using distress inks to sponge up the flat side of the snowflake embossing folder by Darice and lightly spritzing water over it. I then put my card between the embossing folder and ran it through my Big Shot machine. What you get is a beautifully blended background with white raised embossed parts, in this case, my snowflakes. While it was drying, I stamped my coffee cup from Pink and Main’s “Christmas Mugs” stamp set in black Versafine ink and coloured it with my Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers.

I then started on the shaker part of my card. I first cut it with My Favorite things Stitched Scallop Rectangle Frame die & adhered the coloured part of my card onto my white card base. I added foam tape all around the border of my card and added snowflakes in the middle, so that when I remove the adhesive, it won’t get stuck on it.

I decided to use a white frame so I cut another rectangle using the same MFT die. I adhered my coloured coffee image on a white heart diecut and a stitched sentiment strip I created, using the sentiment from the same Pink and main stamp set and a die from My Favorite Things blueprint 20 set, onto my clear acetate panel. This acetate panel was adhered under the white scallop frame and stuck on the foam tape, to finish. The sparkle of the fake snow really adds an extra festive feeling to this card!

For my tag, I just embossed a piece of white card stock with the same Darice embossing folder and cut out a tag using Casual Friday Stamps Funky Square tag die. I also added a clear acetate on top of this tag so that I could stamp my sentiment with Stazon Jet black ink on it, and add the candy cane stamp I coloured with my Spectrum Noir markers, and then fussy cut. Both come from the same Pink and Main stamp set. They were adhered on with Scrap Perfect’s “Best Glue Ever”, which dries clear. Afew drops of Nuco crystal drops finished my tag.

Its the first tag I’ve made this year and I don’t really make that many either, but this was so much fun I know I’ll be making more to accompany my gifts this year! Well thanks for bearing with me through this tutorial but I hope it has been useful to you.

Have a great creative week!

Hero Arts Winter Time Fun slider card

a2z Scrapbooking, Card Challenge, Cards, Hero Arts

Hello all, its December already, the last month of 2018!! Is it just me or are the months just flying by faster than before? Time to go chop down our tree, put up those decorations and as the German tradition goes, bake cookies for the 4 Sundays of Advent, although mine never get that far, so I have to bake double this year! Its also the start of a new challenge over at a2z Scrapbooking blog where our last theme of the year is “Winter Wonderland”. So I hope to see your wintery cards over at our blog and you might just win the prize this month which is the Hero Arts Holiday Tags digital stamps!

Winter time slider card products.jpg

So for this challenge I decided to make a fun slider card with Hero Arts Winter Time Fun stamp set. I first created the background by sponging in Wilted Violet, Spun Sugar, Picked Raspberry & Mermaid lagoon distress inks and cut it with a rectangle die. For the snowy bit, I added white watercolour from the Prima Marketing metallic range so its nice and shiny! The snow hill was created using a white chalk marker. I then stamped all the little critters, the tree and the sleigh onto a white card stock and cut it with my Brother scan and cut. Next I coloured them with my Spectrum Noir Illustrator alcohol markers.

Winter time slider card cu.jpg

All I had to do now was to stick the little critters on the sleigh and assemble the slider part which I did by cutting a little rectangle on the card and adding a foam tape between my sleigh and a coin. To see a video of how I create slider card you can see this post here. I adhered the fox and the tree on the card, adding some Nuvo crystal drops to create snowlike effect in the tree. To finish I adhered this panel onto my card base with foam tape so that the coin would have space to move between the coloured panel and the card base.

Here’ s a video of my slider card in action! if you liked any of the Hero Arts stamps in my post, you can get it from a2z Scrapbooking store and if they’re sold out, you can custom order it! Make sure to use my code Gwendolyn15 to get a 15% discount on any of your orders $25 and above.

Well thanks for stopping by and I hope I inspired you to make a fun Winter card for our challenge over at a2z Scrapbooking. I look forward to seeing your cards there!

Have a great creative weekend!
