With this ring I thee wed…

Altenew, Brushos paint powder, Cards, Die cuts, Heat embossing, stamping, Stencil, The Ton stamps, Watercolor, WoW embossing powder

I attended a friend’s wedding this weekend and it is so nice to have 1.Young enough friends & 2. Friends who still believe in marriage! ( I guess those 2 go together…). During the marriage we were asked to write notes they would read 1 year later and I was struggling to try and write some words of wisdom that would help them have a better marriage. Most of what I could think of would have been advice too late; like “if you love his faults too then he’s the one for you…” or “marry your best friend…”. General advice like “Don’t go to bed angry” didn’t seem genuine as I’ve gone to bed angry a hundred times and got up feeling none the worse. ūüėČ Or, “If he loves you, everything else can be forgiven… like, are you kidding! So in the end I just wished them a marriage full of love, laughter… and lots of patience!! ūüôā

the ton blue & lavendar

I made 2 cards for them, one from me and one for a friend who was invited to the same wedding. The one above was done in colours she loves and I had a lot of pleasure colouring those beautiful The Ton stamps again with my Zigs. I first stamped them in Versamark and heat embossed the Wow embossing powders I sprinkled on top. The sentiment comes from Justrite ‚ÄúWedding wishes vintage‚ÄĚ collection.

I die cut the centre with a Spellbinders die and layered it so it stood out.

The next card was made by first adding a pearl embossing paste through the Altenew “Halftone stencil” and letting it dry. I then created the coloured background by sprinkling my Brusho paint powders on the card and spritzing it with water

I then used a heart die from XCut to cut out the beautiful heart, adhered it on the card and then added the die cut poenies from Altenew, which I had first stamped with Versamark and heat embossed with Wow embossing powder.

I didn’t really have a suitable wedding sentiment to add on the top so I hand write “Together forever” with a gold pen.

This is the first time I stamped on Vellum and I must say I love the results!

A Child is Born + Giveaway + Winner

Cards, Die cuts, Heat embossing, Shadow box cards, Silhouette portrait

I am really proud and happy to announce the birth of…a new shadow box card design! Those of you who know me must just have let out a breath of relief that I didn’t have another child! Don’t worry, I am happily in my “menopausing” stage and our kids are nowhere close to being parents! I am surrounded by younger friends though who, along with my kids, keep me young, so these cards were made for them.

baby-card-sbc-neutral

¬† I made this card for my daughters’s favourite teacher, who is expecting in March. As she doesn’t know the sex of the baby, I used orange and green to keep it neutral. The one below is going to my cousin Jessie who just gave birth to a gorgeous baby girl! Congratulations Jessie! I used the baby wrap in your baby photo as the inspiration for this card!

baby-card-sbc-girl

The cards are a personal design done in Silhouette studio and cut with my Silhouette portrait plotter. I wanted a fresh nature theme to these cards and also bring out the handmade aspect with some water colouring.

baby-card-blue

They are decorated using flowers from Winnie & Walter’s “The Write Stuff: Leave it to Mum” digital cut file and stamped with flowers from CASual Fridays “Bold wishes”, using Momento and Stampin Up inks. The stork was coloured using my Zig clear brushes and the typewriter sentiment comes from W&W’s new release “The Big, the Bold and Baby” stamp set. Justrite’s “Congratulations” was stamped and heat embossed with Wow embossing powder.

The sides were also decorated with stamps from the same CASual Friday set. I made them in three colours and I’m in the process of making one for twins too!

Heres how it looks illuminated with a led light that is put in a slot behind the card. It would make a great night light too I think.

So to celebrate this birth, I will be giving away one of these cards! Just leave a comment here by 28th February, telling me which one is your favourite card. You must be a follower of my blog to be eligible for the prize.

Speaking of prizes, in the Breast Cancer Awareness post here, I offered to send some love to a commenter, with the card I made and a Hope paper ribbon. I want to thank you all so much for your kind comments, it is really heartwarming to know you appreciated the card I made. So the winner is Mary Holshouser!

Congratulations Mary! I like the idea that you will wear the ribbon to remind other ladies to get themselves checked too. Send me an email at desperatehousewifecraft@gmail.com with your postal address so I can send them to you.

Kids Free Week!

Cards, Heat embossing, Shadow box cards, Silhouette portrait

This year, our kids’ school was considerate enough to organise their outward bound week and ski week at the same time so I could have¬†a kids free week! No chauffeuring or cooking different meals for different tastes for 5 days, yippee! Well my hubby still needs to eat, but he loves cooking for me after a tiring day at work, so who am I to argue! ūüėČ I might even be able to get away from being a maid for 5 days, but I’m a little undecided on that point. Then I thought,¬†when I was working full-time at an office, I never asked myself if I should clean the house before I go to work in the morning (or when I came back at night…) so why am I torturing myself with that question now? I just started a business, so I should¬†behave like a full-time business woman…at least for this week.

So I’ll start work at 08h30 everyday… ok, at 09h30 (I never started at 08h30 even¬†back when), make a long list of to dos,¬†which I should actually be able to do as I don’t have bosses or colleagues coming to ask me to do more “urgent” stuff… Bring out 4 new creations for my shop, blog daily, enter challenges daily, leave loving comments on all my favourite bloggers posts and Instagram accounts, meet my tax advisor, make recycled paper, hold at least one craft session, buy more stamps…easy peasy! Or as we say in Singapore, no sweat lah! Oh I have to add 2 German lessons and organise a book reading club for March somewhere in there too…hmmm.

Anyway, I managed to finish 2 shadow box card designs for my Etsy shop. So here’s one of them. Its a gold version of my red heart design I made last week after a dear friend from My Piece of Craft suggested I make a fancier version for weddings and anniversaries.

gold-roses-valentines-shadow-box

This was self designed in my Silhouette studio software and cut with my Silhouette portrait machine. The heart die cut comes from Spellbinders Heart & Flutter die set and I stamped everything with Versamark and heat embossed it with Wow gold embossing powder.

gold-roses-cu

The sentiment from Justrite was also stamped with Versamark and heat embossed with Wow’s Heart throb embossing powder which is a mixture of gold and red.

gold-roses-side

I found this wonderful stamp set from Aladine, which I bought around 4 years ago when I first started scrapbooking, and never used, but I think that is going to change now as all the stamps in the set (with no name) are beautiful different mandalas.

gold roses lit.jpg

Heres the shadow box lit.

So I managed to finish 2 of the 4 designs planned. Blogged today and left some love out in Blog land and Instagram, planned my book club in March and I’m now going to meet my tax advisor. All in all, not a bad start to my working week! Just goes to show how much we can accomplish when we don’t do the cleaning! Lol!

Thanks for stopping by.

Cards

I’m writing this post in the car, on my way to Frankfurt to the largest book fair in the world. ¬†Besides my love for books, this fair is extra special. My dear friend Cinthia, who is a talented published author, is having her books featured at the fair and we’re going to celebrate this special occasion!

cinthias-congrats

I made this card to congratulate her. I CASED¬†Birgit’s card from Happy Little Stampers.¬†I¬†used a stencil from Stamplorations and sponged in Stampin’ Up inks, added WoW clear glittery embossing powder before heating it. The background text was also sponged through a stencil but strangely enough the embossed leafs didn’t act too much as a resist…I cut the panel with MFT’s stitched rectangle die from their Blueprint 20 set and adhered it to the teal card. The sentiment from JustRite was stamped with my Misti with Versamark and gold heat embossed on the scallop circle. I added the side strips and afew pearls with my pearl pen to finish the card.

cinthias card.jpg

Heres a pic I took before I finished the card and as the light is better you can really see how it glitters! I really love my new WoW embossing powders.

With the same stencil, I made another card but this time I used embossing paste before adding WoW gold embossing powder. The text from Penny Black’s “Rejoice with Joy” set was stamped with Staz On black ink on vellum before I heat embossed it using clear Wow embossing powder.

in his presence.jpg

The vellum border was cut from a previously coloured scrap to which I added my WoW heartthrob embossing glitters and heat embossed it. Afew sequins and the card was finished.

The same stencil but 2 completely different cards. I hope you like them!

To Have and to Hold

Cards, Die cuts, Heat embossing, Stencil, Watercolor

When it was certain that we were moving here from France, three years ago, I started gathering info on Ulm, the little city in the South of Germany where we would be moving to. During my on-line research, I met some wonderful people who spent time giving me information on the city, places to live and the German way of life. Soon, these new friends were waiting to welcome me and¬†really made my integration into Ulm so much easier. I now try to do the same with newcomers to Ulm and I will always be grateful to these really special friends. So when one of them announced she was getting married, I just had to hold the hen party for her…and obviously make her an extra special card!

to have n to hold.png

I was inspired by Vijaylaxmi Siyal’s card at Stamplorations¬†CASe the Designer challenge, but as I had recently made a similar card, I was wondering how to do the same but different. It hit me over dinner while I was staring at my daughter’s t-shirt (she started feeling quite uncomfortable, lol !) and I just left the table and started working on the card! (Luckily I had just finished my meal so I didn’t set a bad example for the kids!)

The Card base : I started by masking the card with washi tapes, brought out a stencil from Ideen Hertz and used my Versamark pen to trace the pattern. I covered it with black embossing powder (with the stencil still on the card), removed the stencil and heat embossed it. I then sponged Momento Tuxedo ink over it, and when it was dry I covered it with glaze to give it some shine. Only then did I remove the masks.

The “Flowers”: The flowers are actually the Seashell cosmo stamp from Stamplorations, which I first stamped in Versamark ink, heat embossed it with pink and blue WOW embossing powders to represent the bride and the groom. I coloured them in with Momento inks with my mini Ranger blender and then fussy cut them. The Sizzix leaf diecuts were cut from paper previously coloured with my Brusho powder paints. I added glaze on the leafs so that it would shine and a drop in the middle of each flower too.

The sentiment comes from JustRite and was stamped with my Misti with Momento Tuxedo ink, before heat embossing it.

to have n to hold cu

You get a better view here of the background stencil. I also wanted to intertwine the vines around the flowers to emphasise the “To Have and To Hold”.

I really love this card, cause as my hubby said, it looks simple but alot of work has gone into it. And thats about friendship too I guess. Thanks Sarah Jane for yours, and I hope you like this card. Thanks to you, my arrival in Ulm was so much more enjoyable!

Thanks for stopping by!
