Hi everyone! I’m so excited to be participating in the Coffee Lovers Blog Hop as part of the a2z Scrapbooking design team as they are sponsors to this hop and you can find my team mates cards here.

I’m actually a tea drinker but I used to love my cappuccinos when I came to Europe. Unfortunately afew years ago, I started getting really sick after drinking them and realised I was intolerant to lactose! So I had to give them up as I even got sick with lactose free milk… until Starbuck’s came into town afew months ago. So with their almond or soya milk, I can now enjoy the occasional latte as I’m also trying to stay away from caffeine. How do I survive without caffeine? I get 8h sleep or eat lots of fruit…and drinking 1l of herbal tea each day really helps too. I’m always amazed when I look at wilting plants, how they suddenly spring to life after I water them (except when my family forgot to water them for a month when I was away, there was no coming back for some…)

Anyway, I digress… so for my 1st card for the blog hop, I wanted to make a tropical Christmas card for all those who don’t have cold weather and snow at Christmas, like where I grew up – Singapore. It felt colder in December though as I think all the malls crank up the air conditioning even higher than usual! So I first stamped all the leaves from Hero Arts “Stamp your own plant” with various Hero Arts inks on kraft card stock, cut it with the largest of the Stamplorations Crazy double running stitched rectangle nesting die (the title of this die is crazy!😆) and matted it on a red card base.

The coffee to go mug image is a digital stamp from Sugartree Stamps “Hug in a Mug” and has 5 images and 8 sentiments, all coffee related! I printed it on white card stock and coloured it with gold markers. The sentiment comes from Hero Arts “Winter Fun” stamp set and was stamped first with Versamark clear ink before I heat embossed it with gold Wow embossing powder. Afew gold dots were added before I cut it with My Favorite Things stitched arch die. Both were then adhered to my leaf panel.

Well I hope you were inspired by my card to join this blog hop. If you liked any of the Hero Arts or Sugartree products used on my card, you can get them directly at a2z Scrapbooking, and if its already sold out, you can custom order it from them! Don’t forget to use my code Gwendolyn15 to get 15% off your order of $25 and above.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great creative day!

Cards, Creative With Stamps, Spectrum noir

CWS#27_CuteAnimals.jpg

Hi all, its the 1st of the month and I’m back to inspire you to join us for a new challenge at Creative with Stamps and this month’s theme is “Cute Animals”. You have until the end of the month to share your animal cards with us and make us go “awww…so cute” and maybe win a My Favorite Things “Hooray” die, which will go to one random winner, which I am giving away!

I’m not a cute card person…or a cute anything person but the inspiration of this card descended upon me like a ton of bricks and so I clawed my way from under, just like my little kitty when she fell into my coffee thinking there were more fishes in it, not just those swimming around the saucer, and made the card in no time at all.

I started by stamping the coffee cup and saucer from Concord & 9th’s “Let’s Chat” & coloured them with my Spectrum Noir Illustrator alcohol markers. I’m still new to using them and always forget they don’t blend like my water-color brushes. I then partially stamped the kitty from Clearly Besotted’s Fluffly Furball, drew in his paws hanging on for dear life to the rim of the coffee cup, and coloured him and the coffee. The fishes were also stamped with Momento Tuxedo Black & coloured in with my Spectrum Noirs.

Since he spoilt my coffee, he decided to give me a treat when my birthday comes around. The birthday sentiment comes from Hero Arts.

Well I hope you liked my card and that you’ll pop over to my teammies at Creative with Stamps and leave them some love too. Thanks for popping by and your comments are like soft purring to my ears!

Have a great day!

Two Tone layered stamping

Altenew, Altenew Academy, Cards, Two Tone stamping

I took another card making technique class at the Altenew Academy called “All About Layering” and I learnt the best way to stamp my layered stamps. I don’t have many as I prefer just stamping the outline and water-colouring, but the ones I have are not the easiest to stamp together, so this class was really useful.

Vintage flowers cu

I used the Vintage Flowers set which comprises of at least 40 different stamps of roses and leaves, and I think I used 35 of those stamps to make this card! I also wanted to add a little more interest to the roses by mixing the colours I stamped with, directly on the stamp, and spritzing water on the stamps after inking them up so that I would get a softer two toned more natural water-coloured look. I made a video to show you how I did it which is at the end of my post.

Vintage flowers ccu.jpg

In this close up pic above, you can see that I mixed blues and purples in each layer of stamping for the roses. I think they look kinda dreamy don’t you? To finish, I mounted the My Favorite Things scallop frame onto foam tape and added a piece of acetate on the top, after I stamped the Happy Birthday sentiment from Hero Arts with Stazon on the acetate.

As promised the video of the making of, and I hope you enjoy it. There is still no voice over as my voice hasn’t truly come back from its vacation while I was sick. Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

The Sisterhood of Crafters – Poppy Field

Cards, Distress inks, Hero Arts, The Sisterhood of Crafters

sisterhood

Hi all, I’m back again today as its a new challenge over at The Sisterhood of Crafters and the theme for the next fortnight is “Poppies For Memorial Day”. As I was not brought up in the European culture, I had to look up why poppies are used as the memorial symbol for those who died during the wars, and what I discovered was really interesting.

Poppies cu

In fact, Poppies have long been used as the symbol of sleep, death and peace. Sleep because the opium extracted from them is a sedative, death because of the red blood colour of the red poppies, and probably because they were the only flowers to grow on the barren battlefields, often among the bodies of the dead. These fields of red poppies also influenced a Canadian doctor to write the now famous poem called “In Flanders Field” , for the burial service of his friend who had died in the war, which launched the poppy as a memorial symbol.

“In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below…” (John McCrae)

Poppies

So after I got to know the memorial symbolism of the poppy, I had to make a card with a poppy field.  I used Hero Arts Color Layering Poppy stamp and different Distress, Stampin Up and Altenew Inks to stamp the 4 layers of poppies. The leaves come from Altenew’s Peony Bouquet set and the green grass was made with my Spectrum Noir Illustrator alcohol marker. There was obviously a lot of masking done to give the grass a continuous feel! I didn’t feel like adding a sympathy sentiment even if it would have been the most appropriate, so I chose a sentiment from the same stamp set and stamped it in Versafine black ink. To finish I added a red washi tape strip at the top and coloured the top edge with Stampin Up’s Real Red ink.

My card was also inspired by the photograph I am using to paint my first acrylic painting. As you can see, its not finished so my poppies look like UFOs! I started this a month ago, at a craft fair where I learnt to use acrylics for the first time. I hope I manage to finish this… one day!

Well I hope you enjoyed my post. Your kind feedback is always like a warm blanket hugging me on a cold Winter’s Day ! Please pop over to The Sisterhood of Crafter’s challenge blog and see the other gorgeous cards they have created just to inspire you to do create a poppy themed card.

Thanks for stoping by and have a great day!

Addicted to Stamps and More – Make your Mark

Addicted to Stamps and More, Altenew, Cards, Prismacolor pencils

addicted to stamps

Hi all! Its Wednesday so another challenge at Addicted to Stamps and More and this weeks theme is “Make Your Mark”. This is my favourite challenge theme as I love playing with my markers, watercolours and pencils.

Today I decided to make a card using my Prismacolor pencils as its been awhile since I’ve coloured anything with colour pencils. The colours were inspired by the challenge at Altenew and as it also contained black, I decided to use a black card stock as Prismacolor pencils stand out so well against a black background.

April 11 Altenew cu

I first diecut my black card stock using My Favorite Thing’s scallop rectangle die. I stamped the beautiful flowers from Altenew’s “Wild Hibiscus” stamp set in white using Color Box ink and then spent the next wonderful hour colouring in with my pencils. As its been awhile, I’m a little rusty so forgive me for some parts of the flowers that are not as well blended. One it was finished, I added little sprigs of flowers from Altenew’s Botanical Garden stamp set. I really love both these stamps sets!

April 11 Altenew side

Once they were all done, I stamped the Happy Birthday sentiment from Hero Arts with clear Versamark ink and heat embossed it with white Wow embossing powder. This panel was adhered onto a white card base with a thick cardboard behind it too give it some dimension. I then added white dots on the card using acrylic paint and nuvo drops. The clear drops are from my Goosebumps clear texture spray.

Well I do hope you like my card as much as I enjoyed making it for your viewing pleasure! Do pop over to the Addicted to Stamps and More challenge blog to see the other amazing creations my team mates have made to inspire you.

Have a great day!
