Calling All Sistahs – Check Yourselves!

Cards, CAS-ual Fridays Stamps, Watercolor

calling all sistahs

Hi all, Its the 17th of the month and I’m back again to remind you, together with my other “Sistahs” over at CASual Fridays Calling All Sistahs blog, to check yourselves. We do this every month as part of our monthly breast cancer awareness campaign, which was started by Michele from CAS-ual Fridays, who survived her breast cancer because of early detection and wants everyone to have the chance she had. You can read her story here.

As I’m on the 5th day of my watercolour lessons from the excellent book called Everyday Watercolors, and its about leaves and wreaths, I decided to practise by water colouring a wreath around the beautiful sentiment from the CAS-ual Friday stamp set called Word Ribbon. I used Winsor & Newton Paints on Canson 300g watercolor paper. Once it dried, I cut the scallop with Sizzix scallops dies. The 2 strips of red paper was cut with my craft scissors and then added underneath my wreath panel. The yellow card base comes from Hero Arts.

So thats all from me today. I hope you’ll hop along to the Calling All Sistahs Encouragment blog and give the rest of my “sistahs” some love too! And be sure to come back on the 18th when we reveal our gorgeous mood blog for our next Encouragment challenge!

Thanks for stopping by and I look forward to reading your comments!

Calling All Sistahs Oct Encouragement Challenge

Cards, CAS-ual Fridays Stamps, Versafine Inks, Zig clean color real brush

Hi all! There’s a new Encouragement Challenge over at The Calling All Sistahs Challenge Blog and we have a great really Zen inspiration photo for you.

Mood board.jpg

To join us, all you have to do is:
1. Make an encouragement card inspired by the photo or colors or both.
2. Link up here by 12am EST on the 13th
3. Share with your friends and followers so we can get the word out about our challenge!

One person will win a $25 gift code to use on anything in the CAS-ual Fridays Stamps store. All products are welcome, but if you use CAS-ual Fridays stamps or dies on your card, Michele will DOUBLE your prize!!! Isn’t that amazing!

I decided to be inspired by the flower in the picture and the colours and keep my card clean and simple. I first stamped the lotus from CAS-ual Fridays Mon Ami stamp set with Momento’s Rose Bud dew drop ink and coloured it in with my Zig clean color real brush. I took one of the 3 cute ballerinas from the Tutu set (I adore this stamp set!) and stamped it above the lotus to give the impression that she rose from within it.

I used Versafine Onxy black ink to stamp it and this ink gives really good coverage as you can see above. I also used it stamped in the sentiment which comes from the Tutu stamp set with Versafine ink. To finish I took my pearl pens and added little drops into the middle of each flower. I think they add an interesting touch to my otherwise CAS card. I really struggled not to add anything else to it!

Well I hope you will pop over to the Calling All Sistahs challenge blog and see what my “Sistahs” there have created to inspire you and I look forward to seeing your creations there too!

Thanks for stopping by and I really love reading all the lovely comments you leave me.

Its that time if the month again ladies, time to check yourselves! Breast Cancer is not contagious, but you can catch it early… if you check yourself monthly and go for regular check ups. This reminder was started by the amazing Michele at CAS-ual Fridays Stamps, after she was diagnosed with Cancer. You can read her story here.

Since then, a bunch of us Sistahs make cards as a fun way to remind you to feel em up! You can see their cards over at the CAS-usual Fridays Calling All Sistahs blog.

Today I made a simple Shaker card using the stamps from the Calling All Sistahs collection, which I heat embossed using Wow silver embossing powder. The sequins came from a limited edition of Pretty Pink Posh. I added Washi Tape as a border and the card was done!

Thanks for stopping by and be sure to come back tomorrow where I’ll be sharing my card for the 3rd Encouragement challenge over at the Calling All Sistahs blog, in the hopes that you’ll join in the fun!

Calling All Sistahs- Encouragement Challenge

Cards, Heat embossing, stamping, Watercolor

Its our second Encouragement Challenge over at the Calling All Sistahs blog and we have this fabulous Inspiration pic to fire up your creativity!

June insp pic

The idea of these monthly Encouragement challenges, is to make a card for someone who might need a little lift because they are going through a rough time due to illness, a loss or just cause life’s getting them down.

Paint splat

Unfortunately this month I had to make a few Encouragement cards for friends due to losses in their family, but the card I am sharing today is for a friend who is going through a tough time adjusting to life as a full time stay at home mum. Like most of us expat wives here, she put her very interesting career on hold to support her husband’s career. And like many of us who have been defined by our jobs rather than who we are, she is now having to adjust to having all that time for herself and her family!  It sounds fabulous I know, but after years of spending time for your work and raising a family at the same time, its quite hard not to feel depressed cause we feel “useless” now or feel guilty when we do things just for ourselves.

Even me, I love making cards but I started a company to sell my cards so that I could justify spending all that time making cards! Lol

Paint splat tilt

So onto my card. When I saw our theme for this month’s challenge, I knew I wanted to make a paint splatter. So I first stamped the sentiment from CAS-ual Fridays “BE” set with Versamark, sprinkled Wow embossing powder over it and heat embossed it with my heat gun. I then took out my Zigs Clean Color real brushes and acrylic paints and had fun!

Paint splat cu

To create the splatter effects, I first squirted quite a lot of water with my water brush onto the water colour paper and added the paint or my Zigs to it. Theres a great video here if you want to see the method.

So I hope you’ll join in the fun over at Calling All Sistahs, and you might win a 25$ gift voucher to CAS-ual Fridays at the same time! If you want to know who won our very first challenge in May, click here.

Thanks for stopping by and I would love to know what you thought of my card!

Calling All Sistahs – New Encouragement Challenge

Cards, stamping, Watercolor

Today is the first day of a brand new challenge, starting the 18th of each month, over at CAS-ual Fridays new blog “Calling All Sistahs“! I’m part of their design team called the “Encouragement Squad”. Why are we called this? Go on over to the blog here to find out more and join in the fun… and perhaps win a 25$ gift certificate to the CAS-ual Fridays store… or double if you use any of their products on your creations!

Insp board

This is the beautiful inspiration board for our very first challenge. Don’t you just love those colours and table setting? I wish I was sipping tea in that garden right now… So many gorgeous details to be inspired from!

Be badass side

As you can see, I went with the colours and the flowers and even added some splatters to try and capture the print of the table cloth and the blueberries.  I stamped the border flowers from CAS-ual Fridays stamps on my card with Distress inks before filling them in with my Zigs Clean color real brushes. That inspiring sentiment, also from CAS-usal Fridays stamps, was stamped a few times with my Misti to give it a strong colour so that it really stands out.

Be badass cu

So do pop on over to the Calling all Sistahs blog and join us in this exciting new challenge!

Thanks for stopping by and thanks for taking the time to leave me such lovely comments.
