feb mood board

Hi all! It’s the first of the month and so a new challenge starts over at the a2z Scrapbooking blog and for this month. We have a wonderful mood board to inspire you, which is all about love, love for your family, for your husband, wife, siblings, friends, dogs, food… so lets celebrate LOVE this month!

hero arts love bandit products

I was inspired by the black and grey a little everywhere on the mood board to use the cute raccoon from Hero arts Love Bandit stamp set. The layout of my card was inspired by Oscar from Sesame street; do you remember how he was always popping out of his neighbourhood trash bin to talk? So I used the Hero Arts Paper layering neighbourhood die to set the background for Oscar my Raccoon!

I first embossed the die onto a white card stock by using 2 home made embossing pads made from cheap mouse pads layered into my Big Shot Plus. I then cut it with the outline die from the same set and proceeded to give it a faux urban sketching look with my Tombow calligraphy pen, although any fine point black pen will do, and my Zig clean color watercolor brushes. Its so easy and you can’t go wrong! I made a short video to show you how easy it is to give it that sketchy watercolour look. You can find it at the end of my post.

While my embossed neighbourhood was drying, I water-coloured the background of my card base and little Oscar the raccoon with my Zigs again. I added the Neighbourhood diecut to the card and Oscar and his bin in front of it with foam tape. The sentiment from the same Love bandit set was stamped with Hero Arts black ink.

As promised, here is the video of my faux urban sketching. Easy isn’t it? No talent required! Well I hope you liked my card and that you will be inspired to join in our February challenge. There’s a digi stamp up for grabs and if you use any Hero Arts or Sugartree products, the prize is a $20 gift voucher to the a2z Scrapbooking store! Don’t forget to use my personal code Gwendolyn15 to get a 15% discount on any purchase $25 and above and if they don’t have it in stock, you can custom order it!

Thanks for stopping by and I really enjoy reading your comments so thanks for taking the time to do so.

Mistletoe Coffee

Cards, Coffee Lovers Blog Hop, Zig clean color real brush

You know the rare times (for me at least) that you create something and its exactly the way you saw it in your mind? Well this one layer card is EXACTLY how I pictured it and you can’t imagine how pleased I am with myself!😊 Doesn’t mean that I don’t like everything I do, they often come out differently than what I intended that’s all, sometimes not at all the look I had in mind, but luckily most of the time, they’re still quite nice!😅

I just ordered some stamps from Create A Smile, a German stamp company. I love that there is a German company that makes stamps and dies as good as the Americans as 1) I can buy local and 2) I can save TONS on shipping costs! I got these just for the Fall/Winter Coffee Lovers Blog Hop which ends today, so I was relieved when it finally arrived yesterday! I thought it would be funny to have this cute hedgehog offer a cup of coffee under the mistletoe, cause let’s be honest, sometimes you just need a good steaming cup of coffee before a kiss!

Create a smile coffee

The hedgehog actually comes from their “Doctor’s Helpers” set which features “get well” stamps and I know I will be using these stamps often as Germans stay home a week, under doctor’s orders, when they are sick, even if its just a cold!! They are obsessed really careful about not wanting to pass on germs. In France, unless they have a fever, you leave your child in school and you go to work even if you are sick. I have to say I much prefer the German way!!

The mistletoe comes from their “Festive Foliage” set which I will definitely be using to create a Christmas wreath soon.  I stamped both stamps with clear Versamark ink and heat embossed with a clear Wow Embossing powder. I then coloured the whole thing with my Zig clean color real brushes as I was too lazy to fill my water jar to use my “real” watercolour paints! The sentiment from Pinka nd main was stamped with Versafine black ink. I sprinkled some white acrylic paint on it and it was done! I tried adding a red ribbon to the top but I much prefer it without it, which do you prefer?

Well, thanks for stopping by and I’m off to hop along at the Coffee lovers blog hop now to see some wonderful creations. If you’ve been stopping here along the hop and left me some comments, I just want to let you know how much I appreciate your kind thoughts.

Have a great creative weekend!

Stamplorations Guest designer

Cards, Stamplorations, Watercolor, Zig clean color real brush

2018GDOctDec

Hi all! I’m back today to share my first post as a Guest Designer on the Stamplorations blog for their “Wonderful Wednesday Coloring” posts. I’m so excited to be part of their team for the next three months to share how I colour their wonderful stamps. If you don’t know what Wonderful Wednesday Coloring is about, you’ve been missing out on some really great colouring posts. But no worries, you have time to catch up, just pop over to the Stamplorations blog and see some fabulous colouring projects to inspire you to do the same. And while you’re at it, why not join in on their many challenges and hops, to win some of their fabulous products!

Autumn falling stencil

I’m sharing three different types of colouring today using stencils, stamps and diecuts from Stamplorations. Let’s start by the “easiest” shall we? For this fall inspired card, I just placed the “Autumn Falling” stencil onto a piece of watercolour paper, sprinkled some of the “Gamboge” Brushos paint powder and then spritz water on them to let the magic happen. I love this colour as it has reds, oranges and yellow in it. Once it was thoroughly dry, I put the stencil back on and ran it through my Big Shot to create an embossed look for my leaves so it would stand out. I then cut it with the Crazy running double stitch rectangle die and matted it on a red card base.

My second card uses a coffee cup from the Sketchy Coffee Cups set, which I stamped all over Clairefontaine 250g multi technique paper, using various different Distress inks and coloured in with my Zig clean color real brushes and a water brush. To give the shiny look, I added clear nail polish! The sentiment in the middle comes from their Coffeeology 2 stamp set and was stamped with Versafine Onyx black ink.

sketchy coffee cups main

My third card looks the most difficult but honestly, choosing the colours was the hardest part! I stamped Dee’s Blossom Sprays with Mustard Seed distress ink, I always choose yellow when I want to do no line colouring, as it blends well with most of the colours I use.  I then went over the stamped lines with my Zigs, and blended it with my water brush. To create the background, I waited till the flower I had painted had dried a little, then added water to the edges to encourage the paint to flow around it. If you don’t wait a little, you will loose the outline of the flower. I learnt this from Jean Haine’s book, Atmospheric Flowers. I love how she paints and she is now my inspiration and guide in my water-colouring journey. To finish, I added a little sparkle in the centre of the flowers with my Spectrum Noir sparkle pens, but its hard to see it in the picture.

AECP – Relax, and go with the flow

Altenew, Altenew Academy, Cards, WoW embossing powder, Zig clean color real brush

Today’s card is my assignment, at the end of the Level 1 of Altenew’s Educator Certification program, to see if I can implement techniques I learnt from 3 of the courses out of the ten I took onto one card. This card will also determine if I can go on to the Level 2 of this program. I could be stressing out but decided to, literally, relax and go with the flow! I also made a video to show you my technique to create the luminosity and glow on my card and you can find it at the end of this post.

jellyfish glow

After learning so many techniques, (I watched around 50 video classes!) and being mega inspired by all the incredible creators who taught these lessons, I was now brimming with ideas in my head! In the end, I decided to use the ideas of creating a background & a frame to create my aquarium from the “Seasonal Scene Building”, using my markers and embossing powders from the “Let It Shine” course, and the emboss resist from “Easy ink blending technique” to create the jellyfishes, from Altenew’s “Painted Jellyfish”, which is a layered stamp set with 2 sizes of jellyfish.

blog video1

This card is relatively easy to make but the results are incredible! You have to first heat emboss one of the layers of the jellyfish, with the “Glow in the Dark” Wow Embossing Powder, blend in the distress inks onto your card, then colour the larger jellyfish stamp with the pink Zig Fluo brush pen, spritz it with water, stamp to lift the ink from the card and colour in with the same Zig brush in the areas where the ink was lifted. I then used a paint brush to lift more ink from the paper to to create air bubbles. The sentiment, which comes from the same stamp set, was stamped in Versafine Onyx black ink.

wow glow insta

I love this pic as the glow of the powders in the bottle are incredible! There are more  pics of the incredible jellyfish glow on my card in the video below.

Well I hope you liked my card and that you’ll try the techniques I showed. If you do, please let me know and I’ll come over and visit. Thanks for stopping by and your comments leave a warm glow in me too!

Let It Shine!

Cards, Stamplorations, WoW embossing powder, Zig clean color real brush

After breaking open my new “Glow in the Dark” WoW embossing powder yesterday for my galaxy card here, I couldn’t stop playing with it and decided to see if I could fill a whole card with the fluorescent look! To go one step further, I wanted the card to be fluorescent during the day as well!

Stained glass main.jpg

So how did I achieve this? I used my new fluo Zig clean color real brushes! They come in 4 colours, green, pink, orange and yellow and when I got them, I found them really cool as the colours are really bright…and fluo! But I didn’t really know what to do with them until I saw an ad for this bag that lights up and I decided to try and reproduce the design on my card!

Stained glass cu

I so happen to have a stencil from Stamplorations, appropriately called “Stained Glass”, which matched the design on the bag. I placed the stencil over my card base and started colouring it in with my Zig fluo pens. With the stencil still in place, I pressed my Versamark clear ink firmly onto the stencil, making sure it went into all the triangles. I removed the stencil & poured the “Glow in the Dark” Wow embossing powder onto the whole card, removing any stray powders with a brush when needed, before pouring the excess back in to the container.

I then heated the whole card with my heat gun until the powders melted. I cut out the “Amazing” diecut using Stamploration cutplorations die and adhered it onto my card using Uhu glue stick. This coloured panel was then adhered onto a black card base and the card was done. Really easy but has an amazing effect don’t you think?

Well I hope you liked my card. Let me know if you have tried out either the glow in the dark powders or Zig fluos as I would love to come and see how you incorporated them onto your card.

Thanks for stopping by and your comments really do light up my day!
