Masculine 50th Birthday card

Cards, Die cuts, Spellbinders, Waffle flowers

I don’t make many masculine cards and those I do are upon requests with a theme like hiking, golfing, wine… so I just create a digital image with my Silhouette Portrait and make a 3D card. But today I wanted to make a “normal” card which could be generic for any masculine birthdays and that I could use as a “template” for other masculine card requests.

So I went through good old Pinterest for some inspiration and it inspired me with this design! Its relatively easy to put together. I started by cutting strips from an adhesive backed gold craft sheet with my Tonic Studios paper trimmer and adhered it onto my white card base. I die cut the black panel with a Spellbinders die and heat embossed the Happy Birthday sentiment with Wow embossing sparkle powder.

I then cut the leaves using Waffle Flowers die from a piece of gelli printed sheet I had done earlier. For the number 50, I didn’t have large enough number dies so I used a stencil. I traced the numbers with Versamark clear embossing pen, heat embossed it with gold WoW embossing powder and then ran it through my Brother scan and cut to cut it! I then assembled everything on my black panel using foam adhesive to create some dimension, and the card was done!

I really had fun making this card as I used quite a few different techniques to do it and you know how I love techniques! In the end I’m not quite sure if this particular card is masculine enough but I guess one can always replace the leaves with tools, golf clubs, wine bottles… according to the person’s interest so I’ll keep the template anyway.

Thanks for stopping by and let me know what you think of my masculine card!

Creative with Stamps – Thankful challenge reminder post

Altenew, Cards, Creative With Stamps, Die cuts, Watercolor

Hi all, I’m here to remind you that we’re halfway though our challenge at Creative with Stamps where the theme is “Thankful”. So come play with us with any crafty creations which has the theme “Thankful” and maybe win a prize from our sponsor Pattie’s Creations!Pattie's Creations

For this reminder post I decided to create a card inspired by all the beautiful yellowy golden leaves I see on all the trees now. The beauty of Autumn reminds me often how beautiful it can be to let go and although my son always says “They’re dying mum” I prefer to see it as letting go so we can be reborn again, but my Chinese name does mean “phoenix” (reborn from the flames) so I guess i would think that!

Altenew leaves cu

To make this card, I used the leaves & inks from Altenew’s beautiful Floral Shadow stamp. I first stamped the branches with Altenew Chocolate mini cube inks, the leaves with Mango Smoothie and added a little of their Peach Perfect for highlights, on Canson’s 300g watercolour paper. To make them shiny I went over all the leaves with Prima Marketing’s metallic highlights paints.

Altenew leaves

See how they glitter! The sentiment was also stamped with Altenew inks Dark Chocolate and Peach Perfect, which I also used to watercolour the edges of my card. I added afew die cuts of the same leaves using the accompanying dies and I then cut this panel with My Favorite Things scallop rectangle die and adhered the whole panel to a chocolate card stock.

Well I hope you liked what I created for this challenge and please hop over to Creative with Stamps challenge blog and leave the DTs some love too. I look forward to seeing your creations there!

Using my Stash – Altenew

Altenew, Cards, Die cuts, Watercolor, Zig clean color real brush

Hi all, today is the first post of my new project called “Using my Stash”! 😆 I have a policy that I don’t put away my stamps until I use them, this is supposed to deter me from buying new stamps… key word here being “supposed”. LoL! Although I did actually manage to use all of my new purchases during summer and since I won quite a few gift vouchers as prizes for card challenges and being lucky at blog hops, I went on a spending spree and here’s what my new un-used stash looks like now!!

Help! So I am now hell bent on using a new stamp/die everyday and to start with, here are two cards using Altenew’s layered floral cover die… that is not part of my new stash! Haha! Its like during the sales isn’t it. You go for the sales and end up buying something not on sale! But I promise, I’ll do a post with something from my new stash tomorrow.

layered floral spring.jpg

This one I’ll call “Spring” as it looks so light and bright to me. I used only the die A of the Layered Floral cover die to diecut this piece and painted it with my Zigs clean color real brushes. I then sprayed a pink glimmer spray over the whole piece and it is nice and shiny in reality. I diecut the scallop piece using Sizzix scallop dies, stamped the sentiment from Stamplorations with Stazon black ink and sprayed it with the pink glimmer spray too. I adhered the coloured panel onto my turquoise card base to finish.

layered floral autumn

My 2nd card I obviously called “Autumn”. This card was even easier to make than the first as I just cut it from one of my failed watercolour attempts! I stuck it on a dark brown card stock and adhered the whole panel on a white card base so its a little raised. A few sparkly gems and the card was finished!

Well I hope you liked my cards and you’ll come back tomorrow to see the first creations from my new stash. I’ll be using some cute stamps from Clearly Besotted to make something rare for me, cute critter cards!

Thanks for stopping by and I love reading your comments!

Inlaid delicate die cutting tutorial

Cards, Die cuts, Distress Oxide inks, Pink Fresh Studio

My head is soooo tired from attending intensive German classes every day. I have 4h every afternoon and I come home completely frustrated after having to figure out the German grammar. I was fluent in French in 6months, although thats probably due to the fact that I was only 25, and I didn’t really have a choice as the French didn’t want to speak English, and I’ve got by in Spanish without having studied it. But after 4 years in Germany, I’m still struggling with the language.

Obviously it doesn’t help my German that everyone here speaks English although it makes life easier of course. We only speak French or English at home, (or Spanish when my mother in law is here) and as the kids are in the International school here, German is not their main language either, (they are actually studying 4 languages at the same time though!), so that doesn’t help with me learning German either! So after (and during) my German courses,  all I want to do when I get home is grab a glass of wine… and look on the bright side of life, which is my  card making!

pinkfresh delicate die main

I made these ombre inlaid die cut cards last night with the gorgeous NBUS die from Pink Fresh Studio and I’ve also done a photo tutorial, so its going to be a photo heavy post, to help you understand the best way to get those delicate dies onto a card. I decided to do this when I spoilt 2 die cuts trying to glue them onto my card!

I started by die cutting a black card stock with the die and removing it completely. I do this so that I don’t have too many layers to cut through later.

I then sponged some distress inks onto a white card stock, the size of the black card stock, and glued it behind the black card stock I had previously die cut from, with the coloured side upwards . Behind this distressed panel, I glued a sheet of double sided adhesive. (Ignore the pink blobs, I always use scraps to do my card!)

I then laid the die into the cut out area of the black card stock and ran it a few times through my Big Shot Plus. You have to move it around in your cutter to make sure that everything gets cut, as the adhesive behind the distressed panel will be hard to cut through. Once I was sure that everything was well cut through. I gently removed the adhesive, making sure that the parts I wanted to leave on my card did not come off too.

pinkfresh delicate die green cu

I then pressed the whole panel onto my black card base and voila le tour est fait! Its done! Obviously, to avoid all those steps, you can always spray the back of the die cut with glue if you have it, but as its so delicate, if it sticks onto your table, it rips off easily!

This was actually my second card as I didn’t take any pics with the first one.

This is the first one I did. Which colour do you prefer? Let me know in the comments below !

Galaxy background card 2

Cards, Derwent graphik line painters, Die cuts, Watercolor

Hi all. Today I’ll be sharing another card in my series of water coloured background galaxy cards. You can find my first one here. Today’s card was inspired by a painting created by the amazingly talented Melanie April. If you haven’t seen her work yet, you should go have a look! I love how she creates a scene around her galaxy paintings. I also wanted to CASE Jeanne Jachna’s card for the CAS-Fridays challenge to CASE a Girl Friday.

galaxy ballerina

This card was made up of mainly “recycled” pieces, like the flower die cuts made from my failed cards! To create the green background on my galaxy painting, I used my new Derwent markers to paint over the watercolours. Only a tiny blop of paint from 2 different greens markers was enough to create each layer! They are really thick pigment inks. The little white spots that show through the grassy area I painted are from the acrylic white paint I used to create splatters on my galaxy, so I now know my Derwent markers do not cover acrylic paint!

galaxy ballerina cu

Once the green grassy area I painted was dry, I stamped the beautiful Ballerina silhouette from Casual Fridays from the Tutu stamp set with Versafine ink a few times with my Misti. The floral die cuts comes from different companies. The large flowers comes from Spellbinders, the greenish/blue leaf comes from Waffle Flowers and the little green flowers come from a cut out of an A2 background die from Sizzix. The sentiment Happy Birthday is from Hero Arts and the smaller sentiment below it comes from The Project Bin. Whew! If there was a challenge to use as many different company products on one card, I think I would win it don’t you think? 😁

Thanks for stopping by and I would love to know what you think of this card!
