Calling All Sistahs – Send an Encouragement card

Hi all, its time again for the Encouragement challenge over at the Calling All Sistahs Blog and this time we have a lovely mood board to inspire you to create a card for someone who might need a little encouragement. AND on top of sending someone some love, you could also win a $25 gift code to use on anything in the CAS-ual Fridays Stamps store. This card went through afew corrections to get to this! I actually wanted a watermark of the Sunbeams from CAS-ual Fridays Sunbeams stamp set. So I first stamped it with Versamark on Clairefontaine 250g multi technique paper. On hindsight I should have heat embossed it with clear embossing powder as I forgot that a watermark looks better on a dark background!

As you can see, after I added my Brushos paint powders, added water and swirled everything around, the watermark could hardly be seen, even after I re-stamped it with water hoping to lift some ink with it. As the card was meant to convey that beautiful things are coming out of the dark times, I had to make sure the “beautiful thing” on the horizon was nice and bright!

So I went over the sunbeams with an orange Zig clean color real brush and now the orange splashes over the water look like rays of sunshine seeping into the dark waters of despair… trying to save my sentiment from the same stamp set, which was heat embossed with Wow white embossing powder, except I think some clear embossing powder got mixed into it, which is why it looks like its being eaten up by the darkness of disappointment & discouragement… But the sunlight of hope & happiness is arriving soon!

Calling all sistahs, Cards, Galaxy, Zig clean color real brush

Its a new challenge over at the Sisterhood of Crafters challenge blog and the theme this fortnight is “Oh Boy, what next…”. Its a fun theme chosen by Agata, and you could make a card for a Boy or something masculine,
or something fun, or a declaration of pregnancy, or…. its up to your imagination!

I immediately thought of using my little wizard from Craftin’ Desert Diva’s “Adventure Awaits” stamp set to create a scene with an element of mystery, where he uses his crystal ball to see whats coming next!

To put this together, I first adhered a piece of the the water-coloured galaxy I painted before, onto my white card base. I then added some embossing paste through the “Small brick wall” stencil from My Favorite Things. I wanted to create the illusion that the wall disappeared into the galaxy while he’s doing his magic so I made sure to add light touches of paste at the bottom of my galaxy panel too. Once that was dry, I stamped on the sentiment from the same stamp set with Versafine black ink, and Versamark for the word “Magical” then heat embossed it with Wow Embossing powder.

To finish I just glued on my little wizard and the books, which I had coloured with my Zig clean color real brushes and fussy cut with a scissors. The books images actually come from Santoro Gorjuss “New Heights” stamp which I partially stamped to get only the books. I used a small Versafine ink cube so I could get ink only to the places I wanted and not the whole stamp.

Its time for another Encouragement challenge over at CAS-ual Friday Stamps Calling All Sistahs Encouragement challenge Blog. Were you the winner of our challenge last month? Check it out here!

This month we have this serene water scene to help you cling on to the last days of Summer. All you have to do is:
1. Make an encouragement card inspired by the photo or colors or both.

I was inspired by the inspiration photo to make this Water shaker card. Yes there really is water in my card! I made a photo tutorial to show you how I did it too, so sit back with a cuppa and enjoy!

I first cut an oval shape on the front of my kraft card, using my Spellbinders oval die. I then coloured a white card stock with Salty Ocean distress ink and cut it with the same oval die, before gluing it onto the inside of a kraft card.

I took a 15cm x 10cm (5,9′ x 3,9′) ziplock bag and filled it with just a little water and some blue sequins. I carefully squeezed all the air out of the bag before zipping it shut. I then adhered this on top of my blue coloured oval with double sided tape.

The end of the bag was taped underneath the card with double sided tape AND a large sellotape to ensure it was well sealed!

I then sealed shut the top of the card with double sided tape again, making sure there was tape around the oval shape too.

I cut a strip of vellum and stamped a sentiment from CAS-ual Friday’s Mon Ami stamp set, with StazOn black ink. I added this on top of the card, securing the ends underneath the card with double sided tape. All I had to do now was colour my flower, which also comes from CAS-ual Friday’s Mon Ami stamp set, using distress inks and a waterbrush. I die cut it using the co-ordinating die and glued it onto the bag and vellum using UHU glue stick. I wanted it to look like a lotus floating on water.

I then stuck the whole panel onto another kraft card and my card was finished! Have a look to see how the sequins swirl and flow with the water below.

Calling all sistahs, Cards, encouragement challenge

Its time for our 3rd Encouragement challenge over at Casual Fridays Calling All Sistahs challenge blog, where any style of cards are welcome, as long as its a card to lift someone’s spirit, and this wonderful mood blog should help you to do so!

I was inspired by the hot air balloon and the blue sky in the mood blog make this card using CAS-ual Fridays Floating stamp set. I wanted to convey a message in my card, so I coloured a windy sky and a dark sea with my Distress inks with the hot air balloon seemingly being tossed about, but actually being blown towards brighter skies… Whew! You got all that with one look right?! 😉 :))

Its true though, all those cliches; “Its Darker before the Dawn”, “When God closes a door he opens a Window”, “When you hit bottom you can only go up”… I personally have experienced it, many times… Yet after all those really tough times, here I am, living a dream, with a loving family, great friends and a passionate ~~hobby~~ obsession! So if you’re going through some tough times at the moment, hang in there! Breast Cancer prevention, Calling all sistahs, Cards, WoW embossing powder

Its that time if the month again ladies, time to check yourselves! Breast Cancer is not contagious, but you can catch it early… if you check yourself monthly and go for regular check ups. This reminder was started by the amazing Michele at CAS-ual Fridays Stamps, after she was diagnosed with Cancer. You can read her story here.

Since then, a bunch of us Sistahs make cards as a fun way to remind you to feel em up! You can see their cards over at the CAS-usual Fridays Calling All Sistahs blog.

Today I made a simple Shaker card using the stamps from the Calling All Sistahs collection, which I heat embossed using Wow silver embossing powder. The sequins came from a limited edition of Pretty Pink Posh. I added Washi Tape as a border and the card was done!
