The Colour of Passion

Altenew, Altenew Academy, Brushos paint powder, Cards, Watercolor

… and I’m not talking about the telenovela. I just took another on-line class at the Altenew Academy called “In the mood for Color” and it reminded me that colours can evoke feelings and communicate a silent message. So I tried to apply it to today’s card, and I hope that even without looking at the sentiment, you will able to tell what type of card I’m making.

rose card

Yes, it’s Passion! Passion in two senses. The first is the passion I feel for my craft. I woke up really tired today, but as soon as I entered my craft room and started my course, I felt alive and enthusiastic! And I also felt so lucky that I have this creative outlet in my life. The second is the card itself.  I made it as a special request from a dear friend for her husband for their wedding anniversary and she wanted it to convey the love she feels for him.

rose card cu

I’ve never really used colour to this effect on my cards as I normally used colours that I just felt like using, and the sentiment would be to fill the space that was left or that would accompany the object on my card. I never used red on a card to communicate love or blue for a calming effect… so this class was really an eye opener for me. So much so, that after going through all the courses in this class, I wrote down the different colours and the type of cards I could make with them, as shown in the class videos.

rose card products

I used Altenew Fantasy Floral dies in this card and coloured the rose with a combination of Brushos and my Royal Talens liquid watercolours. In one of her videos, Stephanie Klauck used a panel of stamped leaves on the side of her card and I loved the idea so much that I created a panel of leaves too but with inlaid diecut leaves instead. The sentiment was chosen by my friend once I made the card, and it comes from Penny Black. I now see that I should have added 2 roses to go with the “us” in the sentiment… oh well. To finish, I added a strip of washi tape at the top and afew little jewels.

Well, I hope you felt the love coming from my card and I thank you for the love you’ve shown me by stopping by my blog. Have an amazing creative day!

Adding shine to Embossing paste + Video

Brushos paint powder, Cards, Stamplorations, Stencil

Hi all! I’m writing a really quick post today to share a video with you on how I made this card shine, using embossing paste with Brushos and Glimmer spray! This is also the first card I’m making for a sick child as part of a program I just joined called Zippy Zebra’s Smiles & Hugs. I’m so happy I now have a place to send my cards instead of having them clutter decorate my home.

Golg embossing paste cu

(My apologies for the lighting as it’s not the best in my photos, but I wanted to show you how it shines under the light!)

To make this card, just add embossing paste (or texture paste, either will do) through your stencils, sprinkle Gamboge Brushos watercolour crystal inks, spray glimmer spray, spread and remove. Real easy and quick and the whole process took me all of 6 minutes! Once it was dry, I cut it with MFT scallop rectangle stitched die. I added Stamplorations Cutplorations Layered Butterfly (only the top layer) and the sentiment Beautiful, which were also coloured using Brushos, carded it up on an orange card base and my card was done! Oh I hand wrote in “you are” as an after thought but should have left it out I think, or wrote it in red…

Well I hope you enjoyed my video and if you did, please give me a thumbs up, and subscribe to my channel if you want to get notifications for my next video. Thanks for stopping by and I look forward to knowing what you think of my card!

Calling All Sistahs – Send an Encouragement card

Brushos paint powder, Calling all sistahs, Cards, CAS-ual Fridays Stamps, Watercolor

mood board

Hi all, its time again for the Encouragement challenge over at the Calling All Sistahs Blog and this time we have a lovely mood board to inspire you to create a card for someone who might need a little encouragement. AND on top of sending someone some love, you could also win a $25 gift code to use on anything in the CAS-ual Fridays Stamps store. You can use any products on your card, but if you use CAS-ual Fridays stamps or dies on your card, Michele will DOUBLE your prize!!! Woah! Thats a $50 gift voucher to spend at CAS-ual Fridays, which will certainly put a smile on your face too!

Sunbeam.jpg

This card went through afew corrections to get to this! I actually wanted a watermark of the Sunbeams from CAS-ual Fridays Sunbeams stamp set. So I first stamped it with Versamark on Clairefontaine 250g multi technique paper. On hindsight I should have heat embossed it with clear embossing powder as I forgot that a watermark looks better on a dark background!

Sunbeam trial

As you can see, after I added my Brushos paint powders, added water and swirled everything around, the watermark could hardly be seen, even after I re-stamped it with water hoping to lift some ink with it. As the card was meant to convey that beautiful things are coming out of the dark times, I had to make sure the “beautiful thing” on the  horizon was nice and bright!

Sunbeam cu

So I went over the sunbeams with an orange Zig clean color real brush and now the orange splashes over the water look like rays of sunshine seeping into the dark waters of despair… trying to save my sentiment from the same stamp set, which was heat embossed with Wow white embossing powder, except I think some clear embossing powder got mixed into it, which is why it looks like its being eaten up by the darkness of disappointment & discouragement… But the sunlight of hope & happiness is arriving soon!

Well I hope you got all that just by looking at my card ;), and that you’ll hop on over to the Calling All Sistahs blog to leave my “Sistahs” some love and play along with us! If you want to try for the $50 prize but don’t have any of our stamps, use the code below to get a discount when you purchase them!

Wishing You Happiness

Brushos paint powder, Cards, Heat embossing, Watercolor

I made this card for my kids favourite teacher, who left the school to further her studies at Harvard. I wanted to make a card that  resembled her, bright, cheerful, young and enthusiastic about teaching! So Ms Martinez, I hope you liked it!

casfridays watercolour cu

I first stamped the pretty lotus from CAS-Usual Fridays Mon Ami set with Versamark clear ink, sprinkled white Wow embossing powder over it and heated it with my heat gun until it melted and created a resist for my water colouring.

I took my beloved Zig Clean Clear Real Brushes, that are already filled with water based dye inks, and work really well on water colour paper, and started colouring the Lotus itself, blending with a clear Spectrum Noir sparkle brush.

casfridays watercolour shine

Don’t you love the shine! To create the background, I first took Goosebumps texture spray from Tsukineko and flicked some liquid on the card to create resist spots. This spray is also very good to create a starry sky. I let it dry before I started to colour my background

I then took my Brushos paint powders, another of my favourite ways of water colouring, and sprinkled lightly around the flower, sprayed water on them and helped moved the colour around with my water brush. I stamped the sentiment from Stamplorations with Versafine, cut the panel with the scallop die from the MFT Blueprint 20 and adhered it onto a yellow card from Hero Arts.

So I hope you liked the card and I look forward to your comments! Thanks for stopping by!
