The Colour of Passion

Altenew, Altenew Academy, Brushos paint powder, Cards, Watercolor

… and I’m not talking about the telenovela. I just took another on-line class at the Altenew Academy called “In the mood for Color” and it reminded me that colours can evoke feelings and communicate a silent message. So I tried to apply it to today’s card, and I hope that even without looking at the sentiment, you will able to tell what type of card I’m making.

Yes, it’s Passion! Passion in two senses. The first is the passion I feel for my craft. I woke up really tired today, but as soon as I entered my craft room and started my course, I felt alive and enthusiastic! And I also felt so lucky that I have this creative outlet in my life. The second is the card itself.  I made it as a special request from a dear friend for her husband for their wedding anniversary and she wanted it to convey the love she feels for him.

I’ve never really used colour to this effect on my cards as I normally used colours that I just felt like using, and the sentiment would be to fill the space that was left or that would accompany the object on my card. I never used red on a card to communicate love or blue for a calming effect… so this class was really an eye opener for me. So much so, that after going through all the courses in this class, I wrote down the different colours and the type of cards I could make with them, as shown in the class videos.

I used Altenew Fantasy Floral dies in this card and coloured the rose with a combination of Brushos and my Royal Talens liquid watercolours. In one of her videos, Stephanie Klauck used a panel of stamped leaves on the side of her card and I loved the idea so much that I created a panel of leaves too but with inlaid diecut leaves instead. The sentiment was chosen by my friend once I made the card, and it comes from Penny Black. I now see that I should have added 2 roses to go with the “us” in the sentiment… oh well. To finish, I added a strip of washi tape at the top and afew little jewels.

Well, I hope you felt the love coming from my card and I thank you for the love you’ve shown me by stopping by my blog. Have an amazing creative day!

  1. A truly stunning card that does exude love , Gwendolyn! I think the single flower is fine as it represents love on it’s own. I love the idea of the die cut leaves as the background! So clever! (I’ll use that idea!) Thanks so much for joining us at Watercooler Wednesday Challenge this week!
