Newborn baby card

Cards, Simon says Stamp, Winsor and Newton watercolors

I’m on holiday in Madrid at the moment & I spent the last week showing my cousin & her family around town, eating & drinking till late into the night (early in the morning actually…) and attending my first art classes! After 6 months of being self taught, I took the opportunity of being in a country where I can speak the language well enough to understand the subtleties, to sign up to a few classes. I also found some time in-between to make a few baby cards for a friend, so my holiday has really started well!

The first card is for the birth of a baby girl and I started by printing the letters of her name from The Floral Monogram workbook on Clairefontaine 250gm multi-technique paper. I then stamped with Mustard seed distress ink and masked and stamped and masked the flowers from Simon Says Stamp’s “Spring Flowers”. Once that was done, I coloured it with Winsor & Newton watercolours, in a rose garden in the centre of Madrid in-between two art classes…

The water-coloured panel was then cut with my craft scissors & adhered onto a large card base I created from coloured card stock. This card measures around 25cm x 15cm! I made another card like this but for a boy so come back to my blog tomorrow if you want to see it!

Oh here’s the painting I did during my first formal painting class last week. My teacher told me to paint a picture and just go with the flow…which was really frustrating for me as I need precise instructions as to where to paint and what. “Go with your feelings” in painting is scary for me… which made this exercise particularly good for me I guess! At least I learnt how to paint white flowers.

Thanks for taking the time to stop by & I really appreciate your thoughts on my creations. Have a great day!

  1. I love your card it is so pretty with the flowers wrapped around your letters.
Now your painting, well it speaks you. look at those amazing flowers popping out in all that wonderful greenery, I love it. The stark white of the flowers look amazing against the greens you used and you have positioned them perfectly, your rocking it. I know what you mean because Ihave always wanted to be lead every step of the way when it comes to painting and to have someone tell you to do what you feel leaves you feeling (what!!!!!! are you kidding me!!!! I’m here for you to tell me how I feel but you are showing you are already starting to find yourself). Keep going sweetie and enjoy all the steps.

    1. Thanks so much Aileen for your encouraging words. Its hard for me to paint loosely but my painting classes are really helping me, especially to discover other ways of painting. I feel so priviliged to be able to attend classes!
