First of all, let me make it clear that I am no expert in water colouring, having only just started. So the following tips I am giving is not advice from a specialist, just a way I found to do some easy water colouring on the flower stamps I have that might help you start water colouring if you’ve been afraid to do so before! I do have to say though, that having such beautiful flower stamps, like The Ton’s Sending Poenies set, which I used on my card today, makes it so easy to have great results. So if you like how my card turned out, read on!
Firstly its very important to have watercolour paper! If not, the colours don’t flow very well and its harder to get them to blend. I am using my Zigs Clean Color Real brushes so I can’t say if any other mediums will work, but no harm in trying!
So the method I started using is called line shading, thats what I call it anyway! 😉 I first heat embossed the flower stamps by stamping them with Versamark, then sprinkling silver Wow embossing powder over it and heating it with my heat gun till the powder melts and creates a resist on the paper.
As you can see from the above picture, all I did was to draw lines of colour above the embossed lines of each petal. Sometimes I drew the lines below, depending on where I thought the shadow of the petal would fall.
I then used my water brush and pulled the colour from the lines onto the rest of the petal and thats it! For the orange flowers I used my clear Spectrum noir sparkle brush to blend, but unfortunately you can’t see it shine. Have a look here on my Instagram account to see the effect.
Once the colouring was done, I cut a panel with Simon Says Stamp rectangle stitched die, then took my Grand Happy Birthday die from Memory Box and die cut in the centre. I coloured the sentiment in black with Tombow duel brush pen. I them pieced them back in, leaving out some bits so you could see through to the silver card below. To create the raised effect, I just die cut another piece of the sentiment rectangle from white card stock.
So I hope you like it, even though its no masterpiece, like TaeEun’s card here which I was CASing, but I’m quite pleased with it. Its the first time I’ve managed to create a flower border card, which I took a lot of pleasure in making cause it was easy and of which I’m also happy with the result!
Thanks for stopping by and if you try this method, let me know and I would love to see your results!
