A year ago, when I first started card making, I was so taken by Kristina Werner’s card I saw here, that I bought Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers and copied her card. It looked so easy… until I tried it of course! The result was so disappointing that I never tried to watercolour flowers again. Obviously at that time, I had no idea either about how watercolours worked, about shading, perspective….everything I just learnt from my online art classes.

So with all that knowledge in me now, I thought it was about time to face my fears and try to CASe her card again. I watched her video again, brought out the same stamps and started trying to blend the colours, but the inks didn’t seem to want to flow the ways hers did. I was so frustrated, until I changed the paper I was working on, something she did mention in her video but I didn’t catch on. Then it was like magic and my inks flowed and blended with ease!

 I used Clairefontaine Paint On 250g paper and stamped/masked/stamped the flowers from Tim Holtz’s Flower Garden stamp set. in Versamark and heat embossed it with Wow clear embossing powder. I coloured in the flowers first with my Zig brushes and blended with my water brush, then highlighted some areas with Prisma color pencils. The blue background was also done with my Zigs and I splattered some black ink on it. Using my Misti, I stamped the sentiment from Stamplorations “Fond expressions” with Versamark and heat embossed it with Wow embossing powder on a strip of gold card stock I cut with my fancy sissors.

If you think you’re seeing double, you are because I wanted to give the text a 3D effect by double stamping the text but a little on the side the second time, but it didn’t work out so well I think! I cut the watercolour panel with Sizzix’s rectangle die and adhered it on a kraft card with foam tape. Threw in 2 little rhinestones and the card was done!

Obviously theres still some improvement to be done and i’m still learning how the Zig colours look once they dry, but I am really happy with my card and I can’t wait to try  water colouring again! I added the original card below to show the difference a few classes can make and hopefully inspire all those who were like me, to try again.

Before I go I wanted to share a little project I made for a friend’s Spring photo shoot. I stamped Echo park’s background stamp with different Distress inks and wrote in the names myself using Tombow Monotwin marker. Those markers are great for creating a faux calligraphy!   2. Wow, what a difference a year makes!! I must go back and have a look at some of my first water colouring cards, it would be quite frightening to see the difference! You’ve certainly come a long way and your flowers have vibrancy, shading and detail everywhere. I hope this encourages you to keep on water colouring and join us again at Happy Little Stampers!
